AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has admitted that Bayern Munich are the club that he and CEO Ivan Gazidis see as the model to follow.
Scaroni has always been very vocal about the need to construct a new stadium and move into a new era, one that would provide greater revenues to take the team back to the top.
The president spoke to Milan TV about the new season and the club’s plans for the future, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.
On the new season: “I would be happy if Milan continued to play as they played after the lockdown. They played very fun football with very positive results. We are one of the teams that did better in post-COVID.”
On calcio and the coronavirus: “It is always difficult to make predictions on this terrain. I think that we will have the stadiums open only when the vaccine is there. Until then half solutions can be found. But I am optimistic about the vaccine. I think it will arrive before the end of the year and so we will soon have full stadiums again.”
On the new stadium: “I am very optimistic. We have reached an agreement with the Council on the volumes, which are not what we hoped for but we have accepted them. The majority of the Council agrees on the new stadium, even the opposition has expressed themselves positively on this project, so it seems to me I can say that the great majority of political forces are in favour of the new stadium.”
On the Bayern Munich model: “Bayern Munich must be our model of inspiration and I think Gazidis thinks so too. Let’s not forget the role that the new stadium played in Bayern’s successes. Each year their stadium collects 100 million euros, while our San Siro with Milan does not reach 40 million. So imagining a Milan with 60-70 million more every year opens up horizons for us to go back to being that Milan that the fans have been waiting for for a long time.”
A message to the fans: “I found our fans reasonable and close to the team. They are appreciating our philosophy. They were all united and in agreement with Pioli’s confirmation. I ask the fans to always stay close to our team.”
