Scaroni references Inter when discussing Milan’s San Donato future: “We remain open”

This week, AC Milan and Inter decided on a potential renovation of San Siro, with both clubs thinking it was the wrong idea. With this, it seems the Rossoneri will move forward with their San Donato plans, but Paolo Scaroni has not closed the doors to an alternate plan.

Throughout the last few months, Milan have held the same view when it came to a possible rework of San Siro. Their priority throughout remained their own project in San Donato, but they held the door open to any possibilities.

At one point, it seemed that the Diavolo may have actually done a 180-degree turn, and WeBuild’s plans could have moved into motion. Nevertheless, it was revealed last week that the clubs will not go ahead with the plans in their current state.

It might not be the end of any joint plans, though, and at a UEFA lunch earlier today, Scaroni referenced Inter when speaking about Milan’s stadium situation – his words have been relayed by Calcio e Finanza.

“AC Milan is firmly committed to building a new stadium, working with a great sense of responsibility towards our fans, in order to make the club more competitive at an international level, and therefore we have to explore any possibility that is presented to us.

“The hypothesis of the renovation of the Meazza, for example, did not meet some of the criteria required by the clubs, although it was a high-quality project in line with the level of a leading international company such as WeBuild. Our position remains clear: we continue to invest in the project in San Donato, but we remain open to listen to the answers that the Milan City Council will give us.”
