Scaroni reflects on ‘wonderful year’ and looks ahead to ‘ambitious’ 2023 under RedBird

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has reflected on a very positive last 12 months for the club and looked ahead to what will hopefully be an exciting 2023.

It certainly has been a very memorable calendar year for Milan as they ended an 11-year wait for the Scudetto with a fantastic second half of the last campaign, winning the last six games on the spin to pip city rivals Inter to the title of champions of Italy.

The team currently sit second in the Serie A table and are hoping to claw back the gap to Napoli in the new year, but there has already been success in 2022-23 as Stefano Pioli’s men achieved the very important objective of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2013-14.

Scaroni spoke at Casa Milan today to give an end of year speech of sorts, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“It has been a wonderful year for me, for everyone who works at Milan, for the sponsors and for all the Milan fans. When we look back we say ‘but how beautiful it was…’,” he began.

“The transition from shareholder Elliott to RedBird is also proceeding. It is a transition that is moving forward efficiently. The new shareholder is competent and passionate, two key characteristics. They are giving us an important contribution because they have skills that we didn’t have.

“The USA is one step ahead of us on sports. The transition is going well, always maintaining the good Elliott has done in recent years. We have ambitious goals, I’m not saying it, but Pioli and Maldini will.

“When I see who works at Milan, I am convinced that the ambitious goals we have will also be achieved in 2023. I am confident that at Christmas 2023 I will tell you again that it was another wonderful year for Milan like 2022 was.”
