An obvious danger man and scoring struggles: Scouting report on Spezia

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan know that it is forbidden to make mistakes in the race for the top four as they face off against Spezia this evening, who in turn need a win to ease relegation fears.

As the official website writes, Spezia continue to struggle to score and failed to find the net in their 2-0 defeat to Cremonese in the last round, but M’Bala Nzola continues to be their main threat by some distance.

He has scored 46% of his team’s goals (13/28). Percentage-wise, no Serie A player is ahead of him for their team and he has scored 13 goals this campaign, but he hasn’t found the net for three league matches.

The Angolan hasn’t gone four consecutive games without scoring during the current Serie A season (three successive matches between August and September, too). Spezia’s last win was a 2-1 success against Inter in March which arrived thanks to Nzola’s decisive penalty in the 87th minute.

At the other end, only Verona (30) have conceded more goals than Spezia (26) in home games during the 2022-23 Serie A campaign, with 11 total goals conceded this season from distance shots (outside the box).

Daniele Verde scored eight goals and registered six assists in the league last season, and the 26-year-old has netted three times this campaign and has been involved in two goals against the Rossoneri (a goal and an assist) in recent times.
