CorSera: Scudetto-winning Milan seen again in rampant win over Napoli

AC Milan and Napoli met for the first of their three games this month and it was Stefano Pioli’s men who were left celebrating after last night.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write this morning, the Rossoneri won three matches in 16 days against Napoli yesterday evening and they did it emphatically, winning 4-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

It was a huge victory in the scheme of the top four race but it also takes away some certainty from Luciano Spalletti’s team in view of the two-legged affair in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Scudetto-winning side seemed to return last night as Rafael Leao was devastating on the left, Brahim Diaz gave great quality to the attack while Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer dominated in the middle of the pitch and the defence held firm.

Last season Milan also won in Naples without conceding when Franck Kessie played as the central attacking midfielder, and he repeated the idea last night this time by putting Rade Krunic alongside Tonali in the 4-2-3-1 and moving Bennacer forward who did an incredible job of shielding Lobotka.

Milan’s aggressiveness didn’t give Napoli any breathing space, which meant they could only surrender to a team that was superior on the pitch yesterday, but of course the games in the UCL could be a totally different story.
