GdS: Security of project and summer budget at stake for Milan in Spurs clash

By Oliver Fisher -

There is a lot depending on tomorrow night’s game against Spurs in the Champions League and on what happens between now and the end of the season, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FootballItalia) report this morning that the second leg against Tottenham will be crucial in determining how the future of the project looks and also the budget that will be available to the management to further fix the squad.

It is well known that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been operating on a path of sustainable spending with a budget to match that vision, and it seems destined to continue under RedBird Capital even after they bought the club from Elliott Management.

The Rossoneri earned around €45m from the Champions League last season and this season they are on about €65m, while getting through to the quarter-finals would be worth an extra €20m.

If the worst case scenario were to happen and Milan were knocked out tomorrow night and finished outside the top four in the league, it would have big ramifications on the future of the current hierarchy and of course the transfer strategy.
