Clarence Seedorf has criticised the AC Milan ownership for making changes to the management that ruined the path the club was on.

In what was supposed to be a night that celebrated 125 years of Milan, the team were jeered off the field as they were unable to break down Genoa and were ultimately held to a 0-0 draw.

Paulo Fonseca’s comments after the game have generated headlines because he thought the team played well. The fans did not seem to agree, and at full-time there were very strong protests on display inside and outside San Siro.

The result means that the Rossoneri have not taken any strides towards the Champions League places and have actually dropped to eighth place in the table after Bologna’s win.

Seedorf was among those invited by the club to celebrate 125 years of history last night and he was interviewed by DAZN, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“I saw Fonseca’s interview [the one after the match against Red Star], he was very emotional but he didn’t go over the top. It was a message that needs to be sent every now and then,” he said.

“When you represent a club like Milan, it’s right. A team with too many ups and downs, you can’t understand why: the team is definitely equipped to do better.

“I would say to take a step back. There was Pioli, Maldini and a path. This path was interrupted, now we need time because there are new people: the environment must reunite on new dynamics and mechanisms.

“When you change a coach certain things change. The club must be patient and provide support. They have shown in some games that they have value, now we need continuity.”

  1. I disagree I think it was right for Pioli to leave, he had done all he could, we needed a coach who could take the team to the next level and we didn’t get that, even Maldini wanted Pioli out but Redbird wanted to keep him and fired Maldini

  2. yeah but if we we’re to get fonseca i would just stick for pioli another season pioli is an decent coach nor bad or great fonseca is below avarage of a coach

  3. Fonseca definitely isn’t a step up from Pioli.
His locker management, real time reading of a game and the timing and use of substitutions is very poor. He is unable to (during a match) recognize the players that are ghost or out of form.

We never come back from the half playing better or invigorated, which says a lot about his ability to motivate this team.

We no longer score clutch goals or pile on the pressure in the late moments of a game
