Former AC Milan defender Serginho has poked fun at Inter by reminding them that a 5-1 derby win is still not quite the 6-0 his side achieved.
The six-goal win that the Rossoneri racked up on Friday 5 November 2001 lives long in the memory. A brace from Gianna Comandini made it 2-0 at the break, then Federico Giunti scored, Andriy Shevchenko got a brace of his own and Serginho added the sixth.
The beating was so bad that an Inter fan came onto the pitch and pleaded with Billy Costacurta for the scoring to stop, and 6-0 was how it would eventually end although there were arguably enough chances to take it into double figures.
Serginho was interviewed by SportMediaset and he was asked about the derby from last month, with the Brazilian former full-back admitting that it it not quite of the same magnitude as that night 22 years ago.
“The 5-1 can happen, the 6-0 for Milan remains in history. At the time, we dominated the whole match and we could have even scored more goals: it was very heavy,” he said.
“I think that the first leg of the Champions League semi-final was worse than the derby. I think we can find the great Milan again and win the derby again.”

I remember thinking Gianni Comandini was going to be massive! If memory serves he retired in his mid-20s from persistent injuries.
I mean, 5-1 is not 6-0, but it’s very close. We can’t minimize such a bad result. I know we’re 6-0-1 and tied for first, but nothing but shame should be associated with losing the derby like that. In another era a result like that by itself would have resulted in getting the sack. Pioli’s track record against Inter is an embarrassment.
Yes. But still 6 0 is 6-0
Only difference is, Milan lost 150 million revenue per year in last many years maybe 7 or so.
Inter had 2 or 3 times bigger budget, to reach level where Milan lost 5 in a row and 5 – 1. It is 2 different levels of squad values in terms of quality during period of time.
Now, Cardinale just need to push with revenues, use smart costs to overturn those 5 loss in a row.
Yes that 5-1 was largely because
1. Tomori, who is the only top class defender with Milan was out
2. Calabria can’t defend
3. Kjaer is so slow he was like an orange traffic cone against Inter’s speedy players.
4. Pulisic and Musah came back exhausted having played two utterly useless friendlies against Oman and Uzbekistan
Now, we begin to see how thin Milan really is, especially on defense.
This next international break, the USMNT’s insufferably bad coach, Gregg Berhalter, will probably burn out Pulisic and Musah again, since they are playing Germany and Ghana
Too true. A unexcused capitulation! I am I correct in thinking Pioli originally
comes from a family of Inter supporters…..?…….
Serginho had 3 assists in that game, he was electric, il Concorde was really unlucky to come up against Roberto Carlos during his career, otherwise he would’ve been Brazil’s undisputed LWB
Serghino’s problem was also injuries..spent alot of time on the treatment table. But on his day he was incredibly Quick
