AC Milan's Italian coach Stefano Pioli talks with German refree Daniel Siebert

MN: Siebert displayed an ‘arrogant attitude’ to Milan players and staff – the background

Some background has emerged on how Daniel Siebert behaved amid the protests regarding his error during AC Milan’s loss to Chelsea on Tuesday.

MilanNews report that Siebert – who is included in the list of referees who will go to the Qatar 2022 World Cup – not only lost the game with questionable distribution of cards and after the penalty plus the red to Fikayo Tomori, but he also showed an ‘arrogant attitude’ towards the players and the Milan coaching staff, especially during the return to the locker room at the end of the first half.

The report states that once he and the players had entered the tunnel there were ‘several requests for explanations’ from Milan  towards Siebert who, in response, with an ‘arrogant tone’ told the Rossoneri to rewatch the images of the Tomori-Mount contact.

Even in his return to the field and for the entire duration of the match, Siebert displayed a dismissive and abrasive attitude. He repeatedly refused to speak with the Milan players on the field and only at the end of the game could he not escape having to face Pioli’s peaceful and legitimate protest.

  1. To be fair, these ‘disscusions’ with the referee on he field only happen in italy, and should have no place in football. Regardless of the gravity of the error, it’s not like the ref is going to call Tomori back after the red card just because players are telling him he was wrong.

    1. Only in Italy? Are you new on football? And it’s not about calling back tomori, if the players and staff stop pointing Out a crystal clear error then that particular ref would never be cautious again. It’s more of creating a awareness that ref’s wrong action might have severe consequences.

    2. If you don’t protest injustices or ask for explanation for these actions they will continue to happen, next thing you know this kind of thing is accepted as the norm. You don’t make things fairer if you keep quiet when they are not fair is what I’m trying to say. UEFA has a duty as the steward of football to ensure matches are played fairly and when they don’t do that teams are right to ask themselves if UEFA should be allowed to continue as that steward.

      1. Next thing you know this kind of thing is accepted as the norm? Sorry, but it has been the norm forever. Refs make mistakes and the never answer for them. It has never improved by complaining about them.
I agree that it’s UEFA’s duty to make it better, hence why I don’t like protests on the field.

  2. This motherless bastard is on my top 5 of worst referees. Even people from a neutral stand point think he was awful against Milan. What a shame. UEFA is responsible for giving these no good referees a job. He should stay in Germany and never be able to work outside ever again

  3. These things didn’t happen under Berlusconi. Unfortunately, the new regime lacks influence. Maladini needs to make his voice heard.

    1. You sure it doesn’t happen under Berlusconi when Sheva goal against Barca got disallowed?
Or how Liverpool got a silly pinalti against Milan in 2005 final?

The problem isn’t who’s Milan owner or they need to scream more. But the problem is UEFA already became more greedy and corrupt than ever.

        1. The coner kick wasn’t even played and he whistled for a PK. Worst referee ever in my book and I will never forget his name Bjorn Kuipers

  4. I can’t remember if this twat even looked at VAR. If he did it was with his eyes closed. And so the madness continues… Luckily we beat Juve anyway but that elbow tennis from Vlahovic that should’ve been a pen is the kind of crap that could cost us the scudetto this time.

    1. He refused to look at VAR and when our players were pointing to the big screen in the stadium he turned away from that too and refused to look at it. It was a disgrace.

  5. Talking about ref arrogance?I suggest to you guys to watch the 2002cworld cup match between Italy and South Korea to know what arrogance by ref is all about
