As if losing the first leg of the semi-final derby against Inter wasn’t enough of a blow, the game also saw Ismael Bennacer suffer a season-ending injury.
Sky confirm that the scans have highlighted a post-traumatic lesion of the cartilage of the lateral femoral condyle of his right knee, meaning Bennacer will undergo arthroscopic surgery in the next few hours.

Only then will recovery times be better understood but in any case his season is over, and it is a ‘very serious injury’ because the problem is in the cartilage and recovery times will only be evaluated after the operation.
The most optimistic hypothesis calculates his return in about two months, but a similar problem happened to Giacomo Bonaventura (who underwent surgery in the United States) who remained out for over 7 months.
The Algerian’s 2022-23 season has therefore ended, with a tally of 40 appearances in all competitions and 3 goals. One of these had arrived in Europe, decisive in beating Napoli in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

This is very worrying, mainly for the ability to qualify for the top four and he’ll miss at least a full pre season next year.
What’s more worrying is that we already had a need for a physical/defensive CM when Bennacer was healthy, on top of our dire need for a young ST and a proper RW. Now we may need two CMs if Bennacer is going to be out for 6 months (basically until after the winter break in 23/24). It’s going to be a tough summer…
Dont know if anyone else notice that in two games against two direct rivals for top 4 in the league we got one player of the starting 11 injured before the first 20 min in each game but most people seem to ignore that and proceede to talk about how bad Milan played or how did we get to the semi final in CL or X player is overhyped or something else!
When you don’t want to do the right thing, this is what happens. If Leao was In that March, Ben might not have picked up that injury. In d absence of Leao, probably he was trying to be the anchor man upfront.
Ill say it, again, they are idiots for letting Kessie leave, Bennacer, as much as I love him, hasn’t played more than 18 league games in 3 years.
Pure idiocy on our ownerships part to not secure Kessie at ANY PRICE before the end of last year. THIS WILL COST US MORE THAN THE 15 MILLION THEY WANTED TO SAVE ON THEIR WAGE BUDGET BY LOW BALLING KESSIE FOR MONTHS.
They pushed our luck beyond measure with terrible decisions and the rooster is coming to lay an egg on them this season for all those compounded failures and mismanagement of our roster’s assests over crumbs relative to what is at stake.
This was coming and it was written in the sky for anyone with the slightest, remote sign of intelligence.
Get better soon Benz.
To those cheapskate owners previous and current, thank you for ruining our club’s future with moronic policies. We were at a pivotal turning point and they failed magestically to do what was required to secure the progress or even to maintain the viability of our project.
Hope CDK can pull rabbits out of his backside but won’t expect him to. We need someone to step up out of nowhere for these last few games.
Not disputing the point about Kessie, but where are you getting your stats about Bennacer from? Bennacer’s Serie A appearances over the last four seasons for Milan: 31 (2019/20), 21 (2020/21), 31 (2021/22), 28 (2022/23). He doesn’t play every game, but certainly it’s way more than “18 league games in 3 years”.
you are counting appearances, he hasnt played over 1800 league minutes which is 20 full 90 minute games, since 2019 2020, he hasnt been a full starter, reliable, without injuries since. He was never a reliable go to guy for us without someone else. He is a great player, perfect 2nd or 3rd midfielder on a team, not a number one his injuries are a reason why
He played 40 games this season you clown and he gives more to this team on the pitch than any other player.
Bennacer has always been injury prone, which blows my mind we didn’t get a quality mid in summer. Enzo Fernandez was sitting there and we missed out. Then we thought about frattesi but didn’t do anything as usual. We desperately need another starting quality mid. Always have. All the best to Isma! Recover quick!!
Enzo Fernandez is overhype and overrated. He didn’t do crap in Chelsea. Even Pobega looks a lot more useful than Enzo.
I fkin hate that stupid referee. Inter players did brutal tackle against Bennacer and he just stood there like a moron. He didn’t even give yellow card for Lautaro diving. Fkin crap.
es cierto hay una jugada previa a su salida, en la que recibe un rodillazo, el árbitro estúpido incluso le hace la señal de que se levante… Forza Bennacer
