Sky: Calhanoglu also heading for Milan exit as most likely replacement emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

After the big news that Gianluigi Donnarumma could leave AC Milan on a free transfer, it seems that Hakan Calhanoglu might have the same fate.

Sky Italia (via MilanLive) have confirmed that an agreement between Milan and Calhanoglu to renew his deal which expires on June 30 is increasingly unlikely and appears far from becoming a concrete possibility at this stage.

The entourage of the playmaker will fly to Qatar this week as a decisive meeting is scheduled between Calhanoglu and the management of Al-Duhail, where Mehdi Benatia plays currently and where Mario Mandzukic spent a spell. They have been trying for weeks to convince the 27-year-old Calhanoglu to move there and now he is considering this hypothesis.

A big offer of €7-8m net per season over a three-year deal have been tabled, meaning Calhanoglu would receive in Qatar more than double what Paolo Maldini offered to renew. These are figures that Milan do not even intend to approach, and this is why Josip Ilicic is the favourite to come in and replace him.

  1. Hope they try to get Henrikh Mkhitaryan, would be a good replacement, Rodrigo De Paul is the dream option though. The only bad thing is that they are both clients of Raiola 🙁 . I bet though both their wages combined would be less than what Donnarumma was requesting

      1. You can’t buy a winger to play AMC. They need to get one of Ilicic or Mikhtaryan as they are both experienced and great playes (Ilicic is superior) and Kokcu as a young talent.

  2. Mkhitaryan is nonsense too old and past is prime the same with illic we need a more better cam or hakan can stay

  3. Let him go. Ilicic is a bad idea though. He can’t run and together with Ibra we’ll be paralyzed up there and can’t press.

Mkhitarian is also a terrible idea because he’s a Raiola client, so that’s out of the question.

If we must sign someone there from Atalanta, then it should be Pessina who we have 50% resale clause on, so practically we could sign him for half the price. He is young, Italian and our own youth academy product, too.

  4. If this happens that Donnarumma and Colhanoglu leave, I think that the management of Milan will have huge problems and will live very dangerously next to the fans. I think that there will be a consequence regarding these two players who together are worth 150 million euros. The two best players in Europe, Milan and this incompetent management, will unfortunately, together with Maldini, who obviously does not have the authority of those dimensions, ask the Eliot cooperation to allocate funds for these two players. I think we will see more departures from Milan very soon because when these stars leave, Milan will no longer be even close to that team from last year. I think that the matter is very serious as in the Middle East and will be a consequence for Gazditis and the club’s management.

    1. calhanoglu in the last 6 months has been inconsistent to say the least and nowhere near deserving of the huge raise he is demanding though.

      1. You mean in the last 4 years 😂 I hope he leaves.

And what do you want to do with Donnarumma? You make various offers and he says always no

        1. I kinda feel sorry for Donnarumma. He is a clueless kid who was convinced by his pig of an agent that he is the second coming. He is misguided and naive but it is what it is. He is in the past already. We are grateful for all he did for Milan and wish him all the best.

    2. Seriously, what do these two offer, clueless Calhanoglu,or sloppy donarumma, how many keepers in the world right now command a 10million salary,Milan should easily get goncalves of sporting and any good winger
I trust maldini and I trust Milan
We need to get rid of all raiola’s stooges

    3. So what do you prefer? To be held hostage all your life? Donarumma should go. He is as greedy as his agent. If he loved Milan he should have sacked that dwarf of an agent to remain with us..

      1. Cage I agree but the dwarf as you say is dangerous to any club.

What about buying the player Eberechi Eze for No.10 he is young and very highly skilful and takes control in the middle
Maldini and Massara should be looking at him to replace HAKAN

  5. Please Milan needs to let lazy Calhanoglu go. Maldini should go get a young player like Eberechi Eze. He is young (22 years old) and very hungry…also very skillful and creative attacking midfielder. A million times better than Calhanoglu.
If you don’t know this kid, please check out his highlights and picture him in a Milan shirt…he will destroy Juventus and Inter!!! Maldini, please sign him before he becomes a big name and his club starts asking for big money. This kid has a really bright future.

  6. Sometimes am left puzzled with why Milan management even follow some profiles. There so many young and talented profiles who are cheap and hungry but we keep adding aged players all the time. We may have qualified for CL but we need determined players to get to the top again. We are patiently waiting

    1. Savvy have look at Eberechi Eze
He should replace Hakan for next season
Massara and Maldini should secure this man asap

This man has everything in what Milan need to be competitive in UCL

  7. ….and the Milan Board and Management are not as daft as some of the writers above think. They are on the right path – sustainability, etc, rightfully and hopefully they will also get rid of contract rebels which has no place in a club like AC.

  8. Why not try to get Ruslan Malinovskyi if Hakan wants to go as well. We could do with a player who could shoot on top the box like him!
