Sky: A far from certain future – what filters on Pioli after Roma loss

By Ben Dixon -

Stefano Pioli’s future has been largely under fire this season, and several reports have suggested a decision will be made at the end of the season. Today, following AC Milan’s loss to AS Roma, a report has shed some light on the current situation.

The early stages of the season were a merry-go-round regarding Pioli’s Milan future – his popularity and safety rose and dropped at a consistent rate until reports revealed that a decision would be made at the end of the season, and not sooner.

This was dependent on results, though, and with the Rossoneri in the business end of the season now, there are three games which will likely decide his future, and the first of those was last night at San Siro – which they lost. However, they are not out of the fixture yet, with the deficit only a goal.

Today, Sky have given an update on the current situation with Pioli, especially following the news about the Diavolo opting away from hiring Damien Comolli, and that is that there are no changes in Milan’s thinking. Comolli, if hired, would have preferred to move forward with a new coach, but the management are still holding out until the end of the season to make a decision.

It is important to note, though, that they are not leaning one way or the other regarding his future, with everything depending on the next few games.

  1. I knew this would happen the minute we had either a draw or loss (and the loss isn’t that bad in terms of result, performance-wise yes it was bad). Pioli has to win every game basically to keep the peanut gallery away. It’s incredible. And he does all this with a certain calm and poise that I hope whoever the next coach is would also have. I do hope ppl realize these types of games can and will happen with another coach.

    1. Btw absolutely love the expression on the faces of both Cardinale and Pioli there in the pics. Hilarious lol 😂 🤣 🤣 excellent choice for the classic trolling 🤣

  2. If you’re going to replace the man then you should at least do it well. Hansi Flick did well with Bayern even though not so well with Germany but he remains my first choice. Then there’s Xavi who’s leaving at the end of the season. With Xavi, there’s every guarantee you’d see the likes of Simic and Zeroli play for those fans who complain about not integrating the youth into the first team and Xavi plays quite the modern football. In all honesty, none of the names mentioned in the media appeal to me especially the Italian managers mentioned. I think most of these managers are riding on the appeal to novelty and nothing else.

Oh I should also mention that this is just an opinion.

    1. Bingo!! Exactly this!!!
None of these new guys impress to the point of thinking they can do a better job. It’s the appeal of “new and fresh” that brings out the euphoria. People don’t realize it’s the same sh!t we’ll be dealing with

  3. In a nutshell you are saying there is no potentially great Italian managers out there who could achieve greatness like Ancelloti, Mancini and Simeone inzaghi( because despite inzaghi been on the other side of Milan) who is the brightest of the new and innovative Italian managers out there, his merits shines in contrast to mr Pioli! And it’s obvious for all to see..then Milan should go for foreign managers then if success is all that matters to them… But Pioli is sooooo medieval
