Sky: Availability and scaffolding – Fonseca working on Milan’s defence in privacy

By Oliver Fisher -

Paulo Fonseca has been at work with the AC Milan squad since Monday and he seems to have made the defensive phase one of the priorities, according to a report.

According to Sky, fences have appeared around Milanello to preserve the team’s privacy and in the meantime Fonseca is doing his first training sessions as the new coach of Milan, having been unveiled earlier in the week.

He is ‘starting with the defence’, and it is a department that – at least in terms of availability of players – that the Portuguese already has almost fully at his disposal to test initial solutions for the new season.

The report claims that Zlatan Ibrahimovic in particular wanted a perimeter fence to be established around the training ground, with scaffolding three metres high, covered on both sides with tarpaulin to preserve the privacy of the squad.

Fonseca is already working on the defensive block after too many goals conceded last year, and so rather than changing the players too much – while waiting for help from the mercato – concentration and attitude need to be changed.

Having all the defenders in the squad at Milanello – barring Theo Hernandez – could represent a real advantage to immediately improve the mechanisms and absorb new ideas.

  1. I would like to say that focusing on the defense show Fonseca understands a thing or two, but really anyone that has eyes knows that’s our biggest problem currently. Even if no one cones and replaces Giroud, and we play Jovic as a lone striker (so basically with someone which is highly ineffective there), with an inter-level defensive game we still should be in the scudetto race

      1. There is absolutely nothing “unfortunate” about having Morata. He’s a quality striker and with loads of experience playing in 3 of the top 5 leagues in the world and for top teams. He has won everything and is still just 31 years old. We are talking about the captain of the Spanish national team. And the 3rd highest goal scorer for Spain. What’s unfortunate about that? Last season he scored 21 goals in all Comps for Atletico and was also Spain’s top scorer in the Euro Qualifiers.

I think Morata will settle in well at Milan and with Leao , Pulisic around him, he will definitely score goals as he’s already very accustomed to Serie A having had 2 spells with Juve.

I really hope Milan gets him!

        1. Have you seen him play? He’s one of those strikers who needs 10 chances to score one goal. Sure, he can score 10 goals with the service from Puli & Leao, but we need a striker capable of scoring over 20 goals per season. Morata isn’t it.

          1. Unless Milan grows that kind of striker themselves, they are not gonna buy one. +20 per season strikers are too expensive for RedBird moneyball business model.
