Sky: How Milan could look under Lopetegui including three new signings

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management seem to have collectively agreed on the idea of hiring Julen Lopetegui, and Sky have done a segment on how the team might look under him.

According to Sky, the 57-year-old Spanish coach has been chosen by the management and already has a contract ready to be signed with the Rossoneri to replace the departing Stefano Pioli.

However, they also state that he is still waiting for Gerry Cardinale’s final decision, both after the discontent regarding his potential arrival from fans and while waiting to understand what other options can be explored.

On Sky Calcio Club last night, Paolo Di Canio – a great expert on the Premier League where Lopetegui coached Wolverhampton – tried to explain his playing philosophy and how Milan might look under him.

He suggests that Mike Maignan would remain in goal with Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori continuing as centre-backs and Theo Hernandez a good fit at left-back. However, Di Canio predicted that a new right-back would arrive, with more attacking qualities than Davide Calabria.

A new defensive midfielder would also have to arrive to address the lack of balance in the department at present, but Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek seem ideal No.8s for the former Spain head coach to work with.

Christian Pulisic is tipped to retain his place on the right of the attack given his more technical qualities, then the fast and direct Rafael Leao provides a contrast on the other flank. A ‘fast’ striker would then be needed to complete the attack.

  1. On the positive note, we might actually get a proper DM with Nopetegui.

Knowing this management, it’ll be a 30 year old, just returning from injury Real Betis nobody. Because Nopetegui is a man of Cardinale’s taste. A yes man.

    1. as long as it works, i’m in. lol Kjaer was a 30 yr old, somewhat injury prone player before he joined us and it worked out well for his first few seasons. As long as it works..

  2. To @Ted’s point to some degree ….

Kimmich could be available for $35m and is 29 years old.

    Musah is 21. Adli 23.(IiRC)

Kimmich provides the ability to win now while Musah and Adli deputize withan actual role model.

    Maybe the sky won’t fall?

      1. No mate. I’m saying there is a pearl of sense in the constant moaning.

A proven senior player in a position of need like DM and ST takes us from 2nd to fighting for first.

You know mate, because there is more than one dimension to a problem

        1. Guido Rodriguez is not a proven DM. He’s someone who’s contract is out and that’s what’s appealing to them. They act like they wanna buy a DM just for the sake of it while it is most critical position we lack since Kessie and Tonali left.

          That’s my problem. Mate.

    1. Why would Milan want players from a country that can’t even beat Macedonia in a must win game. Maybe the Italians should travel to the USA to learn how to qualify for a World Cup…

        1. Thuram French, Lauturo Argentine, Minkitarian Albanian (?), Cala (Turk), Dumfries (Dutch), Sommer (German?), Pavard (French?)

Full of Italians … From the bench yes.

Gabbia is a badass in most situations. Calabria is servicable if we are not playing him as a CB/Mid/RW in the same game at the same time. Pobega solid squad guy.

Would love to have seen us get Scamacca for the ST but doesn’t seem reasonable now. So who is the Italian striker that puts us over the top?

Would love to see Carnesechi join us if we can cash in on a clearly fragile Magnion. (seems possible)

Who is the DM that we need?

If we are gonna win the Scudetto and compete in UCL don’t we want the best players rather than chosing on nationality?

          1. Sommer is Swiss and Mhkhitaryan is Armenian you stupid yank moron.
Yes let’s overlook Bastoni, Acerbi, Darmian, Dimarco and Barella as core starters as it doesn’t suit your agenda.
The worst thing that ever happened to football was idiot Americans becoming interested.

    1. Well aren’t you special? Bless your heart.

5/11 starters.you named. Hmm … Not a majority. “Full of Italians” seems to indicate a simple majority.

Would you now like to tell me howy mom is bad at math? Or maybe what terrible people all 365m or so people in my country are? Clearly I’d rather have you abusing me that you abusing your children.
