Sky journalist offers feelings on Pioli’s future: “Paths that can end”

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan will make a huge decision after this season regarding Stefano Pioli’s future – should he stay, or should he go? After last week’s loss to AS Roma, the tides may be turning, but there is still time for the 58-year-old to rectify his situation.

All season, the pressure has been building for Stefano Pioli – a man familiar with managerial pressures. However, it is unknown if Milan have reached a point of no return with the Italian, following the loss to Roma.

Reports before the game offered suggestions about the landscape of Pioli’s situation, but the reality is that the concerns from this season never really faded. In other contexts, perhaps the loss last week would not have been as serious, but now the Rossoneri find themselves in a situation where Pioli will have his future decided by two games.

Peppe Di Stefano spoke to Sky about the current landscape of Pioli’s situation whilst also providing some updates about the squad for Thursday’s fixture against Roma. His words have been relayed by MilanNews.

“It was a disappointing Milan in Europe against Roma, on Thursday they will have to change their skin but without upsetting many interpreters. Certainly, Fikayo Tomori will return from the first minute alongside Gabbia. Everyone in the group is fit apart from Simon Kjaer, while Pobega has also returned to train with the team along with Thiaw.

“In the middle of the pitch they will go with Bennacer and Reijnders and in front there will be space for the fantasy and quality of Leao-Pulisic-Loftus and Giroud, despite the quickness and quality of Chukwueze perhaps useful in the running game. Tomorrow Milan will train at 12:00 at Milanello and will leave at 16:30 from Malpensa, then the press conference at the Olimpico where Pioli and Rafa Leao will speak,” he said.

“In this last phase of the season the Rossoneri coach will play a lot, we are not inventing anything when we say that from the field passes the future of every coach. The history between Pioli and Milan has created emotions, moments and trophies, as well as a virtuous game. However, some paths can end, I think it will be necessary to wait and evaluate sensations and field: Ibrahimovic will be very important, we will go towards a change and not towards a revolution”.

    1. Nobody wants to deal with DeLa if they have a choice and Pioli is no exception . From Napoli’s point of view, he’s close to ideal.
Frankly I think Napoli will get Conte, no mid-week cups next year makes it the ideal Conte team

      1. Nah. Napoli might want conte but conte doesn’t seem to want napoli.

If not milan or juve he’ll probably land in England again. United maybe?
