The negotiations between AC Milan and Rafael Leao over the extension of his deal will start from a very important point: the player wants to stay.
That is according to Sky’s Peppe Di Stefano (via MilanNews) spoke about the negotiations for Leao’s renewal after yesterday’s meeting at Casa Milan with the player’s lawyer, confirming that there has been and is likely to be no news today.

The discussions are open after the fact to face summit, then they go on via email, via video call, via call, via WhatsApp with continuous updates. There will be an offer from Milan, there will be a counter-proposal from the player, while the crux is not only the salary but also the fine to pay to Sporting CP.
Milan ‘will do everything to renew the player with an effort that they should/could/wanted to make for Kessie, Donnarumma, Calhanoglu and Romagnoli’ the journalists adds. They will go beyond previous limits for Leao not because he is necessarily stronger, but because he is young and it would mean losing their most valuable asset otherwise.
Also, Di Stefano adds that renewing his contract would mean a lot in the future also in terms of sale as it would give Milan leverage. The will of the Milan management is there to extend the deal, and so is that of Leao.
A meeting point must be found from a financial point of view, but Leao ‘does not want to leave Milan’ because the club ‘have made him one of the most important players in Italy and in Europe’. He will also listen to the advice of Maldini: “Stay at Milan and grow with Milan again.”
The negotiation has started, there will be continuous and constant updates, there will be ups, there will be downs and it will go on ‘at least until the beginning of the World Cup’ which is what Milan have set as their first deadline.

If he leaves I will officially be #RedBird Out. First for getting Dest for marketing purposes although he doesn’t even have the quality for Cremonese and for not renewing Leao. If we don’t renew Leao and he leaves or he is sold, other European clubs will get the memo that we’re a selling club since that will have been Dollarumma, Kessie, Hakan, Romagnoli who have left and not been renewed and now him. They will buy everyone. Tomori, Bennacer, etc. We have to resign him for the future of our club!!!
Why aren’t you already aboard the #RedBirdOut train? Absolutely useless, we need a real cash injection the likes of PSG and Man City not this £80mill to spend a season lower tier of French league level of finances.
Relax. Not everyone is after the money. I’m sure e.g. Tonali won’t be leaving us to get bigger bucks in the UK.
Then offer him the 7M he requests and pay off his fine and be done with it and don’t low ball his at 5M…
Some claim he now wants 8M€. Clearly a strategy of someone who DOES want to leave.
Different numbers get thrown around all the time, so I wouldn’t think too much of that. I’m sure he sees Donnarumma having to fight for a slot and Kessie coming on to play the last 10 minutes of games. In Milan he’s #1 and won’t be dropped to the bench for some mediocre performances as he would if he moved to EPL. He has plenty of time to cash in elsewhere later on.
Milan will go beyond their previous financial limits because LEAO IS ABSOLUTELY STRONGER PLAYER than Gigio, Hakan, Kessie and Romagnoli.
Nothing against those 4 players but none of them was/is a needle mover, they were/are just role players.
Pay him 7 mil a year but I am not in support of Milan paying off Leao’s debt with Sporting. It sets a bad precedent especially when Milan had nothing to do with that mess. I also think that Leao and his agents shouldn’t even ask Milan to pay that. I’m making a huge exception when it comes to the salary but he has to pay off his own debt.
What he or his agent are asking is never for sure but you have to look it on the other way aswel because if Leao gets 7-8m that wouldn’t be fair towards theo, tonalli, isma, Tomori and such those lads are the key players for Milan in many reasons including players who Milan wants to buy and also the fact that Milan can’t offer amazing players such contact is just crazy
None of those players is capable of 20-30 goal contributions a season. Forwards make more. It is that way in every club.
Lol. He will do EVERYTHING to stay….. besides take a little less salary then he wants. But yes he will do everything…. sure… Ok this seems like Donnarumma and Kessie all over again. If no deal by winter mercato we have to sell, it’s harsh and I want him to stay but he’s a huuuuge asset. We either need to resign or sell he can’t leave for free..
I don’t get the whole sporting fine thing, why is lille not paying since they collected Transfer fee from Milan and plucked him for nothing from sporting?
Because none of that would have happened if Leao and his agent didn’t unilaterally rescinded his contract with Sporting first.
Lille will have to pay half of the sum. So it’s ~9M€ Leao, ~9M€ Lille.
