Sky: Milan to have €70m budget this summer thanks to top-four finish

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan secured their spot in next season’s Champions League with a 1-0 win at Juventus this evening. The management can now fully start to plan for the summer, as the budget has become clear.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are both keen on reinforcing the squad this summer and as per Sky Italia (via Radio Rossonera), they will have a €70m budget. Charles De Ketelaere will stay and it remains to be seen if €20m will be used for Brahim Diaz.

We wrote a lengthy piece about Milan’s budget for the summer on our Substack, which you can read here, in which we broke down the figures. Milan have a Settlement Agreement to follow, which complicates the situation, but we painted a scenario to explain it all in the best way possible.

The Champions League qualification if obviously a huge part of the budget, seeing as Milan collected a total of €125m in revenue from this season’s adventure (including ticket sales).

  1. Offload CDK while teams are still curious, get 30m back. Offload rebic, origi, florenzi, ballo toure, messias and toure looking at a pretty solid transfer budget of maybe 130-140m. Get a good striker, RW, and CM and a few promising talents as depth and all set.

    1. @Zoro Caloro at least someone else in here understands that if the sporting director can sell players then our budget can be much higher.
But most people in here only expect the owners to write checks and management to just spend without bringing any money back from sales.

      1. Simple answer; no one. Considering that a team that’s really interested in him last season, Leeds, got relegated, it’s impossible to sell him there. The maximum kind of deal that we can get is to let him leave on loan with obligation to buy under several circumstances or a simple option to buy.

    2. How did you get 140M from the 70M plus sales of Origi, Florenzi Toure, and Messias????? Are you drunk? Even if you added 30M from a CDK sale that will never happen – your 40M short LOL. Do u really think those players will add up to 40M?? LOL @Zoro Caloro. Lucky if you can even get a buyer for Florenzi or Messias and Toure is maybe like 3M. Origi best bet is 10M. That was a funny read – TY

      1. Rumored 10 for Origi. I’m assuming somewhere around 10 for Rebic, somewhere around 5 for Messias, and a few mil for the rest. That’s assuming we only lose a little on CDK and can sell around 30. If so at the very least that’s 60m extra which is 130 my guy. Yeah maybe we get less and get 115 or 120. Who cares. You can get a few quality players for that and then bring in a few free transfers. And relax buddy, there’s pills for that level of stress u know.

  2. Cdk must stay, and try him recover in next season. Too much millons burned on him. We must release 10 players and risk with new investments.

    1. 70 million is a lot for a club like Milan who doesn’t have their own stadium for steady income and big debt!

If you want to complaint then maybe you should donate a couple of millions euros to the club. But i doubt you have that money 🤣

  3. CDK stays he needs time and with all indications he stays he’s very fast with the ball but needs another season

  4. 70m is a good amount. They should be able to raise it to around 100m through sells.

Then Kamada is a good addition and free. I would divide the bulk of the budget into two parts and sign a great striker and a right-winger.

If they can sign Asensio on a free transfer, then that would be the cherry on the top, as we could raise the level of the squad in many more positions.

  5. Get free player Kamada, Thuram, Ndicka, Cher Ndour, Luka Romero, Raphael Guerreiro/Alex Grimaldo. And then, Milan can focus for Right winger and Striker. Maybe can get another player again in right back, midfielder, and left winger position.

  6. Just my personal opinion ,i hope Maldini dont repeat wasting 50m euro budget this season . For 70m euro my dream : Buy SMS ( skip if above 35m euro and use that 35m euro for striker) . Seko fofana 25m euro . Already use 60m euro for SMS & fofana . Find good striker available on loan or free transfer ,use that 10m euro left buy theo deputy. Sell 4 player ( rebic, origi, ballo toure, junior) to get total 20m euro for buy orsolini or berardi for RW. Promote chaka traore for leao deputy. Bring back colombo for striker if ibra leave . Loan CDK to monza for more playtime or swap him with player you want like rasmuss or scalvini

  7. CDK needs another season. Not easy for a kid coming from Belgium league to adapt on Serie A tactics. Plus this summer he would have pre season training.
I just hope this season Redbird won’t do the same mistakes like past season.
Milan needs at least 4 high quality signings (striker, midfield, defence and RW).

    1. SMS coming from belgium league in 2015 at age 20 , pioli are his coach in lazio , that was SMS first time play in serie A. If SMS can score goal in his1st season in serie A , why CDK cannot ? Lazio squad at 2015 not that special but SMS can score goal . CDK are shy boy ,introvert type ( source from belgium junior coach ) thats why he is hard to adaptation with his team mate

      1. The difference is that CDK arrived at a Champion Milan. Stakes are way higher.
I get your comparison, but let’s give the guy one more season

  8. ONLY increasing the budget by 20M for reaching semi-finals of CL is a joke. We have 50M normally and we made it to semi finals of CL – made extra 80M and our budget only increased by 20M and we are supposed to be happy?? LOLOLO. Wow how brainwashed some have become. We need a minimum of 100M not including player sales IF Ownership is serious about competing for CL. We all know what we need: established consistent in prime players at Striker, RW and ACM. 2 defensive mids and a backup to Theo.

Kamada and Sportiello are nice starts. Swap Pobega for Singo for RB. Would love to bring Kessie back on loan before Inter takes him and he kills us. Rest we will see.

We could have won the CL and we would still only get 20M extra. 60M in Redbirds pocket – fantastic. Love these owners #PROFIT…

    1. Lmao 100 millions for transfer budget is when Milan already own their own stadium that can generate 100 million /year.

Also. Those UCL money will be used to pay the debts which are a lot, players-coaches-staff-management salaries, training facility maintenance, etc.

Managing a big club like Milan isn’t easy.

      1. Those ‘lil kids don’t understand managing a huge football club has running expenses other than player wages and transfer fees too. And – for some clubs – they need to keep their finances in order. So running a club that makes financial losses each year isn’t sustainable.

But yeah, let’s splash 600M€ on transfers this summer. It worked for Chelsea so it’ll work for us too. It worked well too when Fasobelli spend 200M€ too, right? Remember all the trophies we won after that transfer window? Aaaah, good times. Good times. Money is everything. 😀 😀 😀

        1. Ya those little kids would have sold Leao for 40M!!! hahahahahaha!! There he is! The leading goal scorer in the co-ed under 7 church league – Mr @bb himself! Hey @bb still think we should have sold Leao for 40M kid???? Is Leao still “greedy” having agreed to a 5M/season contract plus add ons? funny how your dead silent about Leao now LOLOLOLOLO…Donkey!! And for the record nobody is saying now is the time to go crazy and spend 600M. But 100M is reasonable. 50M is what we have each year and increasing by only 20M isn’t enough IF Redbird want to build a consistent winner. 100M is fair. AND M&M are not Mirabelli and Fassone and would never go crazy like they did (compare the their track records) again a stupid comparison – but not surprising coming from you lol. Oh poor @bb – now he can’t bag on Leao so he will have to make up some other thing to complain about. I know, maybe it’s the color of Benny’s boots or Adli’s hair is too long LOL. Such a clown. Go back to bed

          1. “funny how your dead silent about Leao now LOLOLOLOLO…Donkey!!”

Nope. He was the worst on the pitch against Juve. Again. Did you notice that? I bet not as you chose him the MOTM. Again.

  9. Needless to argue how big or small the budget will be. We desperately need reinforcement for next season in order to compete. We got lucky again because of juve fiasco. A proper rw, am with a backup, cf, a proper dm and theo deputy, and a decemt gk backup, no more tata. And to all of you that say cdk will be good as a back up or a starter need to rewatch all the games he played in to understand that he gotta go. Lets what miracle maldini and co will do this summer window.

  10. On the CDK debate and generally, it’s worth noting again Milan faced a former player tonight in Locatelli.

Locatelli is, in my opinion, a better player than Tonali, and he was FREE.

Milan gave up on him/signed so many players on top of him that they pushed him out.

We did the same to Cristante including signing Essien who was long last it.

We can’t keep making the same mistakes. You can nearly make a 1-11 of our former players who play for our direct rivals (3 former players started for Inter against us).

Not only do we waste money we also boost our rivals.

There are countless examples of players going from awful to world beating (and sometimes back again). It’s very hard to predict which is why definitive statements about who is hot or not are misguided.

That needs to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind this summer. We don’t want to see these players excel somewhere else after we’ve invested in them financially and emotionally.

    1. When Locatelli was here we were in the banter era. Loca was one of my faves and a piece of my heart is still with him. He was a shining spot in a difficult time. But the management didn’t trust him and that hurt him and he ended up at Juve. The management at the time was also not what we have now. Back then we were still in the environment of buying ready made players and unfortunately Loca suffered because of it. Im sure if he was with us now, he’d stay

    2. “Locatelli is, in my opinion, a better player than Tonali, and he was FREE.”

Yet Tonali won yesterday’s duel 100-0 on a personal level. Loca was one of the worst on the pitch.

  11. A few hours ago Fabrizio mentioned Kamada has chosen Milan, with medical is being scheduled in the next 7 days if everything went accoding to the plan.

Looks like Milan learned the lesson of last season and moved fast in this windows, literally right after securing UCL qualification. Looking promising.

This might also mean that we gave up on Diaz, for better or for worse.

  12. Brahim is a bargain for $20m. The question is can we afford to go and buy a great player or not. I’m guessing not… In the case, you won’t come close to Brahim’s level for $20m.

    1. Brahim ain’t even a bargain on a free transfer, because he would occupy a valuable starting spot and we will be forced to play with 10 players most of the matches again. Granted CDK is worse, but Milan need someone better than them both combined, and I doubt CDK is going anywhere after only a year.

Now I also don’t think Kamada is that player but let’s hope that he is.

  13. And please commit to Pobega. He can quickly become one of serie A’s best, he just needs the playing time. The team doesn’t suffer with him on the pitch, either, like with other players on the pitch. Start him every game and he will repay you.

  14. Lol. I bet this is gonna stick but no one knows how much money AC Milan will spend except the owners. The faster we move out of this transfer kitty idea the better m & m can work with what they have. Media is deluding the fans

  15. If we have limited budget, we should sign Kamada for free to fill AM position while retaining both CDK and Adli. This way we can focus the remaining budget on DM and ST. We need 5 DM but as of now only 4 will remain for next season. Our ST situation is even worse as we can only depend on Giroud, even if Origi stay, we still need another. As for RW, lets try CDK for this position as his heat mark at Brugge last season show that half of the time he was on RW area (even Leao was SS like CDK before conversion to LW).

Ideal 26-players squad with 4-2-3-1 position would be:
    3 GK
    5 CB
    2 RB
    2 LB
    5 DM
    2 AM
    2 RW
    2 LW
    3 ST

      1. Because there are 2 DM positions, if 2 players got injured while we only have 4, it means we are locked with 2 players we can’t subtitute for few games. CB, DM/CM, and ST are vital positions that cannot be removed by changing formation.

        1. 5 DMs means one of them probably won’t play a single minute of football and the another less than 20%. Clubs usually fill those last positions with youth players because you rarely need them. In case of unbelievable luck and injury to 3 players in the same position another player can play out of position for a while, surely. It’s better than over crowding the squad. Calabria or one of those attacking mids can play one or two matches there.

    1. So we have

      3 GK: Mike, Sport, Vasquez
5 CB: Thiaw, Kjaer, Timori, Gabbia, Kalulu*,
      2 RB: Calabria, Florenzi, Kalulu*
      2 LB: Theo, Fode
5 DM: Tonali, Bennacer, Krunic, Slowbega
2 AM: Hopefully Kamada, Adli, CDK
      2 RW: Saele, Mess
      2 LW: Leao
3 ST: Giroud, Potential signing, Origi, Leao/Rebic/CDK emergency

Others not above: Vranckx who might not be redeemed, Baka end of loan, Diaz end of loan,

Yea like u said we need a proper DM the way our formation works. But I also think we can address the RW because a proper one would make our left flank stronger (yes left as in Theo and Leao)

        1. I forgot that we don’t have any LW backup if we sell one of Rebic/Origi, even if they stay, they are not dependable at that position…

        2. 3 GK: Maignan, Sportiello, Vasquez
5 CB: Tomori, Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu (also RB), Gabbia
2 RB: Calabria, Florenzi (also LB)
          2 LB: Theo, Ballo
5 DM: Tonali, Bennacer, Krunic, Pobega, New Signing
2 AM: Kamada?, CDK (also RW?), Adli
          2 RW: Messias, Saelemaekers
2 LW: Leao, Origi (also ST)
3 ST: Giroud, Rebic (also LW), New Signing

          1. You need 8 player home grown. Should be :
            3GK : Maignan ,Sportielo,academy player
            2RB : Calabria ,Florenzi
            2LB : Theo , Parisi ( also RB )
            5CB : Thiaw,Tomori,Kalulu,Kjaer,Gabbia
            5DM/CM:Tonali,Krunic,Pobega,Bennacer,RLC or seko fofana
2RW:New signing or loan player , Saladmaker
            2LW: Leao,Chaka traore
3CF: New signing or loan player,Giroud,Colombo
2AMF : Kamada, SMS ( only if sell CDK & adili to fund, note : SMS can also play as double pivot)
Must sell player : Origi,Rebic,BalloToure,Junior messias

          2. And the limit is 17 non-homegrown over 22 years old so if the squad size is 26, we need 9 homegrown/U22 (at least one U22).

So with least buying, it is:
            3 GK: Maignan, Sportiello*, Vasquez
5 CB: Tomori, Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu, Gabbia*
            2 RB: Calabria*, Florenzi*
            2 LB: Theo, Ballo
5 DM: Tonali*, Bennacer, Krunic, Pobega*, New Signing
2 AM: New Signing (Kamada), CDK (try for RW), Maldini*
            2 RW: Messias, Saelemaekers
            2 LW: Leao, Traore*
3 ST: Giroud, Colombo*, New Signing

More new signings can be included if they are U22.

        1. Yes agreed. I don’t know how much they could or want to offload but we really need to up our quality.
My asterisks were also that the player could play multiple positions without loss of quality.

  16. 70M! We also need Italian marks on the team. No one is Considering Retegui. We are waiting him to join EPL or Chelsea then we start to chase him up . Since Maldini has taken Chelsea as his premier league market.

  17. Depend on last year mercato,
I’m very sure that Milan will buy player from relegated club in european league.
If so, then Tielemans is one of the best option.
And for forward, there’s Onuachu, Iheanacho or Daka. Looking at our style of play that need strong target man, i’d say Onuachu is the best bet.
For left side cover of theo and leao, just bring back el shaarawy.
Pretty realistic and healthy mercato eh?

  18. Kamada signing. Good stats. What about another japanese player to keep him company… Kyogo from celtic..
