Sky: Milan benefitting from ‘super subs’ – leaders in Serie A for bench contributions

AC Milan have won four games on the spin in the league and while a trophy this season will still be very difficult to get, the recent results have eased some of the pressure on Stefano Pioli.

Sky report that Pioli has ‘taken control of Milan again’ after his job as the head coach truly in the balance. The club, at least publicly, never doubted Pioli’s work and defended him on several occasions, it must be said.

Milan appear to be back on track despite seeing two objectives for the season vanish: Champions League knockout stage qualification and the Coppa Italia.

At the end of the season a 360 degree reflection will be made on the future of Pioli but after seven wins in the last nine Serie A games third place is more secure than ever.

The goal is to accelerate further, also thanks to a much deeper squad, and exploited to the fullest by Pioli who is becoming a specialist in successful substitutions, which have brought points and goals.

Nine goals have arrived from players brought on during games: Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic have three, then Christian Pulisic, Chaka Traore and Jan-Carlo Simic join the list. That is the highest number in Serie A, with the new signings doing well.

Coming on and scoring is becoming a trademark of this Milan, like thrilling finales: Atalanta away was a defeat, but Genoa, Salernitana and Udinese were more positive. The Rossoneri do not give up, the pitch says so and the numbers say so.
