Sky: Milan benefitting from ‘super subs’ – leaders in Serie A for bench contributions

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have won four games on the spin in the league and while a trophy this season will still be very difficult to get, the recent results have eased some of the pressure on Stefano Pioli.

Sky report that Pioli has ‘taken control of Milan again’ after his job as the head coach truly in the balance. The club, at least publicly, never doubted Pioli’s work and defended him on several occasions, it must be said.

Milan appear to be back on track despite seeing two objectives for the season vanish: Champions League knockout stage qualification and the Coppa Italia.

At the end of the season a 360 degree reflection will be made on the future of Pioli but after seven wins in the last nine Serie A games third place is more secure than ever.

The goal is to accelerate further, also thanks to a much deeper squad, and exploited to the fullest by Pioli who is becoming a specialist in successful substitutions, which have brought points and goals.

Nine goals have arrived from players brought on during games: Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic have three, then Christian Pulisic, Chaka Traore and Jan-Carlo Simic join the list. That is the highest number in Serie A, with the new signings doing well.

Coming on and scoring is becoming a trademark of this Milan, like thrilling finales: Atalanta away was a defeat, but Genoa, Salernitana and Udinese were more positive. The Rossoneri do not give up, the pitch says so and the numbers say so.

  1. Well we have better quality off the bench with 10 whole new signings, 8 of them not in defense, one of them would probably score at some point in time or least that’s the hope 🤣🤣🤣🤣.. and our attack in general was never the real issue.

    1. The attack was an issue last season you doughnut! Milan were top 5 defensively and in the bottom half offensively. Salad and messias were garbage, Origi was worse. No backup for Leao. 22 goals 14 assists so far from the new signings and you’ve been on here blasting management nonstop, trying to discredit them at every turn. Now when facts are definitely against every analysis you’ve made you try to shift the narrative to a negative. Milan have more points than they did at this stage last year too. You and your anti ownership conspiracy theorists have nothing to point to so now you all charge the narrative. Here’s a fact for you. In one half season furlani and Moncada’s signings have had more goal contributions than all of Maldini’s combined. Let that soak in.

      1. Man your whole post is laden with misinformation it’s hard to keep track.

“Milan were top 5 defensively and in the bottom half offensively”
WRONG. We were never bottom half offensively. What are you, nuts??? Bottom half??? U kidding me right or you’re just mad so you just feel compelled to make up stuff to sound good to support your point?. The last 4 years or so we’ve been consistently around top 4 offensively..it’s the defense that’s been our issue.

These are the stats from last year and all the way back to 2020/21. These are raw so you can’t say I’ve done any magic tricks.

2020-21: 5th best attack, tied 3rd best defence, 2nd place
2021-22: 4th best attack, tied 1st defence Scudetto
        2022-23: 4th best attack, 6th best defence, 4/5th
2023-24 (so far): 2nd best attack, 8th best defence, 3rd place. Still has to shake out

Our worst defences coincides with our worst positions. It’s Serie A and in general, defence wins titles.

“Now when facts are definitely against every analysis you’ve made you try to shift the narrative to a negative”. Bro all I said was if you buy 10 players obviously you should have something useful coming off the bench like two 20 million dollar players. It’s just common sense. And I literally said we have better quality coming off the bench..the first line..Do you guys even read???

“Here’s a fact for you. In one half season furlani and Moncada’s signings have had more goal contributions than all of Maldini’s combined. Let that soak in.” Lol 😂😂😂😂 why would I let that soak in. It’s patently false! I don’t even know what to say for this one. How this became a Maldini thing but you do know he bought Leao, Theo, Giroud and so on. Right??? Math and basic common sense would tell a normal person there’s no way ALL of goal contributions from the signings from all previous years under Maldini are less than 36. Wtf did I just read 🤣🤣🤣

  2. Thanks to pioli we are doing very well at the moment and Indeed under him we did win the scuddeto,,and of course did reach a champions leauge semi final ..
This season we did go through a bad patch ,but all good teams do ,,but now we are back on track .
We are doing better than most seemed to suggest we would do …if we want to win a trophy again in the not to distant future,,then we must keep hold of pioli .
Yes to appoint another coach at the end of this season will be a step backwards , believe me ..I have been involved in football a long time both at junior and senior level …What you need to succeed is someone who has got harmony with the players ( good Communication skills ) this more often than not brings good results…We have players know who are now becoming part of the team …pioli knows when to introduce players from the bench ,,he is giving all players opportunities..football is a team effort..
We are AC Milan …..good things will happen…
    Let’s not take a backward step …
