A Sky journalist has claimed that AC Milan remain behind Manchester United in the race for Youssouf Fofana and that they are preparing what could be a decisive offer.
It has been well documented that Fofana is among Milan’s biggest targets for the summer mercato but – unlikely the deals for Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal – their patient approach is yet to pay off.

Transfer pundit Luca Cilli spoke on Tuesday afternoon about Fofana, who was not even on the bench for Monaco’s friendly against Barcelona in the Gamper Trophy last night, and he provided a rather worrying update.
“Talks with Manchester United are ongoing, and the Red Devils are ready to make an important offer in line with Monaco’s requests,” said Cilli (via Football Italia).
“Milan, right now, are way, way behind. Unless there are unexpected surprises, Milan will have to look for alternatives for the midfield.”
Calciomercato.com reported that Gerry Cardinale’s arrival in Italy is likely to result in a further acceleration for Fofana, though there have been no details as of yet about any kind of improved bid.
Sky did report last night that the asking price for the 25-year-old has now dropped from €35m to €25m, by virtue of the fact that the previous interest from the Premier League has not amounted to anything more.

I’m glad you’re not the owner of Milan. You would go and give all the clubs what they are asking for their players. Milan is 100% right here not to offer more than $20 million to pay for 12 months of player’s services.
Okay Gerry, sorry if you get offended. I am not saying I agree Milan to pay 35 mil for player in last year of contract, like I also agree Milan didnt pay 15 mil to Zirkzee agent, and moved to Morata. I mentioned it often in other comments. This is a joke.
My point is, if Milan already know Monaco is that stubborn, they should move to another target, not waste energy on these negotiation and adding 500k-1 mil per new offer. Yes, sometimes it works (like Pavlovic), but mostly it doesn’t work. The league will start in less than 1 week, and Milan still doesn’t have a proper DM.

We don’t know what they are doing until there is an official press release.
