Sky: Milan’s probable XI to face Fiorentina – Calabria and Bennacer return

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli carried out some tactical tests at Milanello today ahead of Saturday night’s game against Fiorentina, it is claimed.

As reported by Manuele Baiocchini of Sky (via MilanNews), tomorrow’s final session before the game will give some more indications about the team that Pioli is likely to field at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, but signs have already arrived.

In training today Mike Maignan was in goal with a three-man defence of Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori ahead of him, then Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer in the midfield double pivot with the Algerian back from injury.

Davide Calabria is also back from injury and he was tried at right wing-back, with Theo Hernandez on opposite flank. In attack, the centre-forward Oliver Giroud was supported by Ante Rebic and Charles De Ketelaere.

Probable Milan XI (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Kalulu, Thiaw, Tomori; Calabria, Tonali, Bennacer, Theo Hernandez; De Ketelaere, Giroud, Rebic.

  1. This is not a good lineup. Calabria doesn’t fit in this system as a wingback. I would rather see Florenzi, Messias or even Saleamakers over him. And play Ibra and give Giroud a rest please.

  3. No Calabria, please. He was one of the reasons for our terrible run in January. Too slow, poor positioning, no crossing ability etc. Why change a winning lineup?
