Sky: Optimism regarding Donnarumma in light of Genoa game but renewal still ‘complicated’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is trying to be ready for Sunday’s game against Genoa at San Siro, according to the latest updates.

Donnarumma limped off in Saturday night’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi having appeared to sustain an injury in the 13th minute when he almost gifted a chance to Federico Chiesa, suffering an ankle issue in his recovery.

He tried to continue but could not, and was ultimately replaced by Asmir Begovic.. After the game, head coach Stefano Pioli revealed his belief that Donnarumma had sustained a sprain to his right ankle.

According to Sky Italia – as cited by MilanLive – Donnarumma wants to return immediately without missing a game, even if Begovic appears to be reliable cover for one game.

Donnarumma is carrying out the appropriate therapies ahead of the weekend’s game against Genoa and the intention of Pioli is to use Gigio, as long as he is 100%.

Meanwhile, there is talk of the future of Donnarumma. The broadcaster confirms how Milan are facing a complicated renewal at present given that his current contract will expire in about a year and a half.

Without renewal, Milan will let him leave based on the offers that will arrive in the summer, as losing him on a free is not an option.
