Sky: Pioli resolves final selection doubt ahead of second leg against Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli seems to have resolved his final selection doubt in view of tonight’s game against Inter, a report claims.

According to Sky, the good news is that Rafael Leao is fine and will be available from the first minute so he will start on the left wing, while in defence Malick Thiaw is expected to start instead of Simon Kjaer.

Junior Messias seems to have won the battle with Alexis Saelemaekers. The Brazilian has impressed in the final training and will start on the right wing, while Rade Krunic is also back in the midfield next to Sandro Tonali.

After the weekend rotation against Sassuolo, Simone Inzaghi plans to re-field the same starting XI from the first leg of the derby. Edin Dzeko is therefore the favourite over Romelu Lukaku to support Lautaro Martinez.

Hakan Calhanoglu should be the regista again, preferred to Marcelo Brozovic. Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco will be the wing-backs, with Matteo Darmian and Alessandro Bastoni either side of Francesco Acerbi in the back three.

Probable Inter XI (3-5-2): Onana; Darmian, Unripe, Sticks; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Lautaro Martinez, Dzeko.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Tonali, Krunic; Messias, Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

  1. Messias? How? He wastes chance after chance, can’t cross, and literally didn’t even test the keeper on a wide open run. Not to mention his game against spezia was horrible. Pioli trying to get fired and collect his money it seems

    1. Well, they need to score goals and he scores twice as many as Saleamakers, in about half the playing time. That’s why. If they were protecting a lead you would go with Saleamakers.

  2. Diaz in the centre only means he will get bullied again with all those highly physical Inter defenders. Nothing changed much in terms of the on paper formation and player selection. Hopefully we’ll have different approach than the last one.
