Sky: Probable XIs for Lecce vs. Milan – two changes as Pioli reverts to 4-2-3-1

By Oliver Fisher -

After playing with a 4-3-3 formation for the entire season, Stefano Pioli is set to revert to the formation which he knows the best by making a small change to the midfield.

According to what is being reported by Sky, Christian Pulisic was not called up due to the muscle strain he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, and he will not even leave to play for the USA over the international break.

Samuel Chukwueze is just back from a hamstring injury and doesn’t have 90 minutes in his legs but he should start from first minute on the right wing over Noah Okafor. In midfield, Rade Krunic is the favourite over Yunus Musah.

The source claim that Mike Maignan will be in goal with Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez the back four.

A double pivot of Krunic and Tijjani Reijnders will support Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rafael Leao as the attacking trident behind the centre-forward Olivier Giroud.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Reijnders, Krunic; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Probable Lecce XI (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Gallo; Blin, Ramadani, Rafia; Almqvist, Krstovic, Strefezza.

    1. Agree. Reijnder is not good as a regista and as a mezzala, he is poor at finishing. So he is best as a box-to-box midfielder with a deeper position. Krunic will play as DM, back-to-back with Musah. RLC is good as an AMC because he is good at composure and long shots. He can also use his height near the penalty box to score.

  1. I’d would have hoped that Pioli let Reijnders rest a bit, maybe use Adli or Musah instead.
The poor guy played pretty much every single game since august (including NT) and is clearly tired.
But maybe that would be too much rotation.

  2. Every time you think maybe Pioli has learned, he proves he is just the same stubborn ass as always. It’s pretty clear now to everyone that the team is better off with basically anyone besides Krunic in there, but he just can’t help himself. Just look at the team’s record this season when Krunic has not started. It’s much better. This would be the perfect game to play Adli, or at least stick with what just worked against PSG.

  3. So…..Pioli is pushing dead wood Krunić AGAIN from start????AGAIN????Is he killing our great game without Krunić on purpuse,or by accident? When will it end?Mister Pioli…Krunić is 0% player,a hand break in our team…Adli can play 40-45 meters diagonal pass 10 times per game,Krunić can not play 10 meter back pass without risk, you know that….we need 11 players Mr. Pioli,eleven,11…..not Puli plus Leao, and rest defensive dead woods, meter makers, blind runners…..please,leave finaly those clowns out….finaly, those times in Italian football with 3 defensive midfielders are over Mr Pioli, today everyone plays from first second with full press in front…they dont start with sprints in 75.th minute like ACM did in few last games in Serie A.11 playerswho are playing with and without ball. Please dont kill us Mr Pioli …again…against weaker team…with Krunić…Adli plays in perfect form,Ruben,Reijnders is most inteligent Serie A player…dream team, right?Let those guys play, they have all skills needed.Plus Ismael in January…mamma mia…

  4. Most Serie A small teams, like Lecce, have young, athletic, players. He needs Krunic to cover up defensively. I would love to see Reijnders rested, but, I guess Pioli doesn’t want to disturb the rhythm of the game. We did not sell Krunic, so, we have to use him. I might not favour him, but, he has done his part every now and then. We need the whole team, especially, with injuries creeping up here and there. Best wishes to the team today. Forza Milan!
