SM: How Milan should line-up against Lazio – one major doubt to resolve

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan squad do not have much time to enjoy Wednesday’s 3-1 win against Cagliari because training is already back underway ahead of the game against Lazio.

The recent wins against Hellas Verona and Cagliari have Milan back on track in Serie A following their derby defeat at the hands of Inter, but the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund in Germany is looming.

That is why Stefano Pioli will have to carefully plan how the line-up looks for the game against Lazio, who won 2-0 against Torino at the Stadio Olimpico last night and finished second last season.

According to our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud should still start after being rested against Cagliar. There is a doubt in midfield about whether Yunus Musah or Yacine Adli will start.

The defence should be the same meaning no place for captain Davide Calabria, while Mike Maignan should return to his spot between the posts.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Florenzi, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders, Musah; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

  1. We need strong midfield with Musah in this game I think. Pulisic could be even rested and try once again Chukwueze, but ot looks like there is only time when Samuel will start to score as well.

Against Lazio we must make strong game and best possible result!

  2. I very much like this lineup. Florenzi has earned the starting spot on the right. Adli did well in his chance , now it will be good to see Musah get his chance. I think he will bring a little more physicality and more of a defensive approach while still being able to dribble out of pressure and get the ball moving forward. I hope this is true.

  3. I think we will win this game against lazio , especially with the big guns back ,,that is Olivier Giroud and rafeol leao .This will be a tougher match than against caligari….I won’t be surprised to see Olivier score yet again …the man is a master class ,top technical genius, and has the ability to score goals against any team in the world …
Things are looking good ,,,I really believe we can win the scuddeto again this season ..Rafeo Leao ,,,the best to come from him soon ….
Been so impressed with signings of Loftus cheek and pulisic ,,,Tomori is looking solid at the back .

  4. I enjoy watching calabria on bench and i dont ask for anything else, that is enough,so joyful like i have seen ronaldinho in our shirt again

  5. If Calabria is healthy he should be starting vs Lazio.
Florenzi is awful defensively. Playing vs the tomato cans from Verona and Cagliari is not the same as playing vs Lazio and one of the better wings in the league Zaccagni.
Vs Verona and Cagliari Florenzi had nothing to worry about defensively but vs Lazio he will have to defend.
Calabria isn’t the best RB in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but when it comes to defending, he is way better than Florenzi.
Lazio likes to attack from the wings and Florenzi can’t guard a statue.

    1. Calabria has been Milan’s weakest defender this season and last. He is always out of position and all the dangerous attacks come from his side. Now I know Florenzi is not a great defender but I think he is at least smart enough to position himself in ways where he is not getting exposed. ANd he offers much more going forward than Calabria does. Overall I think Kalulu might end up being our best option there but right now it’s Florenzi’s until he loses it.

      1. @z I’m with you… only dumfries, Di lorenzo are a bit better than calebria, Injuries and so on…. because cagliari didn’t pressure from florenzi side u now think his better than calebria…. but u see @k that guy don’t know anything about football, if u played football before u will understand better….

    2. So true. Going forward I think they both can stand head to head but defensive ability, I will give it to Capito. Don’t get me wrong, Florenzi is a good player but he has much to learn defensively.

  6. Mike
    Florenzi Thiaw Tomori Theo
    RLC Adli Reijnders
    Pulisic Giroud Leao

Give Adli another start and let’s see if he can do well against big team.

  7. Keep Pulisic starting on the left. He showed against Cagliari the benefit of a LW that hustles and presses.

And I think RLC would do well if tested in the CAM role sometime. He has great vision, hard to knock off the ball, and is super calm and composed unlike all of the CAMs we have had recently. I loved Brahim but he was a little out of control at times.

  8. At least you are all suddenly becoming more positive.
That’s what I like to see …We have a great squad ,and of course,, we have to use all of them ,at the right moments ,,,but overall things are looking good 😊
I believe we will win against lazio ..
I believe we have a very good chance of winning the scuddeto…Do you fans believe it …You must .We are AC Milan .

  9. Can’t our coach try a different approach. Play reijnerds and loftus cheek at d base of the midfield and play pulisic in there front behind giroud with leao and Chukwueze on both flanks . Trust me with this u would see d best out of the three of them playing behind giroud

  10. How is calabria the weakest point in the defence?? He is the nr 2 in serial in 1v1?
We want to play florenzi who is old and scared to take any chances. Calabria has been a milaniSta since the Primera. Dont forget he was almost sold 2 seasons ago when the Chinese to over. If anyone he has heart and soul for the club! Probebly one of the best players last season. If your note comparing him to leao! #respecthardworkers
