SM: Milan expect signing to have medical next week – the leading candidate

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expecting to welcome a player for a medical on either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, we have learned, and there is a leading candidate for who it could be.

According to our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, there seems to be no doubt about who will be the next Milan striker: Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard must play in the European Championship final with Spain and then he will be free to join Paulo Fonseca’s side.

According to Orazio Accomando of DAZN, in the last few hours Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly received the player’s approval and reached an agreement on his salary, which should be around €4.5m net per season.

The Swede himself worked personally for the arrival of Morata, which will be made official at the end of Euro 2024. Milan will only have to pay €13m as a transfer fee, equal to the release clause in his contract with Atletico Madrid.

According to what our team has learned, Milan are in a hurry to make Morata official as soon as possible and – although the Spaniard will still be granted a period of vacation – he will first come to Milan to undergo medical tests and sign a contract.

The date in question should be in the middle of next week (between Tuesday and Thursday). Morata scored 21 goals and assisted an additional five for Atletico Madrid this past season, the best goal return of his career, and it showcased his importance once again.

  1. Morata is a good player. Whether he’s the ideal candidate for this role, who knows, but it will be big for the team to have a high-level striker under contract so they can begin focusing on some other areas.

  2. I see many people her bashing this deal, but if you put the total deal compared to the Zirkzee deal (the alternative) this is very good. The price for Morata is less then the the money Kia asked for his own pocket alone (read that the total deal cost Man U 61 mill Euro).

Yes, he is not R9, but Morata has the experiance, better striker than Zirkzee and he will come good. Espacially after Oli and Kjaer gone. The remaining Zirkzee money can be used for either a different striker profile or the rest of the marceto.

  3. Morata for 13M is a much better deal than Zirkzee for 55M. While he is not the dream striker one might, well, dream of (until one would wake up to the harsh reality that we can’t afford a really dream striker), he is quite decent. He’s got still 3-4 good years left in him at age 31, and by the time he gets too old, Camarda will be fully mature.

I actually am glad that Milan didn’t accept Kia’s outrageous fee of 15M. We did not want that precedent, and the drama for Zirkzee’s next renewal. Good riddance. I’m not even convinced if Zirkzee will pay off for Manchester United. His total of goals was inferior to Morata’s total, this past season. He will probably be a bench warmer at ManU; I think his greedy agent robbed him of a much bigger role as a starter for Milan and Zirkzee himself will come to regret it. It is hard to know who worked for whom there; Zirkzee seemed to prefer Milan but his agent maneuvered to prevent that, in favor of the EPL (he knew that they would have less trouble meeting his commission demands).

Now we need to get Fofana as a DM. And after that we need to reinforce the defense with a couple of players; if it happens, it will have been a successful mercato.

Remember, what killed us last season was the defense. The offense actually was prolific enough, with multiple players scoring, and the offense’s number were only inferior to Inter’s among all 20 Serie A teams, and the numbers would have been closer to Inter’s without the injury crisis (which affected the defense more than the offense, but still, midfielders being out did affect the offense too as a good midfield is essential for an offense’s production).

If this coming season we match what we did offensively last season but we dramatically improve the defense with a true DM that we’ve been missing since Kessié left and a couple of CB/RB reinforcements, we’ll be at least more competitive than we were last season, and maybe we’ll even challenge for the Scudetto.

I’m feeling more optimistic now than I felt a couple of weeks ago.

    1. Agree 💯 – Morata wouldn’t have been my first choice either but he’s coming off his best goal tally yet, his work rate is phenomenal and he doesn’t come with any toxic agenticity, unlike a certain Dutchman.

    2. Well said, mate. Felt really bad about the Zirkzee situation, but, now, I’m optimistic with all that you’ve said. If they can get Fofana, that would really help the defense. I also hope they get a good centre-back. Don’t know if Jovic is the right substitute on the bench for the No.9 position, but, I hope they are looking at getting another striker, aside Morata.

  4. We were less than optimistic when Giroud first signed, many calling him over the hill, which to be fair, he was past his prime. But still proved fundamental in helping us with the Scudetto. Even got a warm send off and some tears.

I hope Morata is more effective than Oli given his age, but overall I still think we’re just kicking the can down the road for the next three years (or however long Alvaro got left). Gives Milan time to pick their next “targeted” striker.

  5. The dream striker is Camarda. It is better for an older striker like Morata to come and tutor him than having Zirkzee come with huge price.

        1. Which he is, this season in Serie C. Needs to play against adults and prove himself at a level where if he fails it doesn’t destroy his confidence or cost Milan games. Is that really so hard to understand?
Any intelligent management team would do the same. Sign a capable established player to hold down the spot until he is ready.

  6. It is only in Italy especially AC Milan that I hear “a player is not matured yet” this maturity thing has made us waste many promising talents which I felt would have turnout to be big names, for instance Lazetic many believed he had potentials but coming to Milan everything vanished, what about Traore that would have been a perfect Rafael Leao upgrade, Colombo is out there wasting and Daniel Maldini who got little or no chance to grow and showcase his potential too, anyways the aforementioned names are just few amongst many others.
It’s heartbroken to know that we do not value our own young talents like we say instead we hope on the wastes of other clubs to survive. Now, some months ago we were seriously pursuing Chelsea’s injury prone lad ‘Broja’.
I pray we end up not wasting Carmada too.

  7. Sometimes I wonder if any of them ever go through this platform.
May God help AC MILAN and the management…. AMEN 🙏

  8. There’s a shortage of proper strikers available on the market and from all considered, Morata is a good choice. Mature and experienced both in Serie A and Champions League. It will be as well beneficial for Camarda to mature under the likes of Ibra and Morata around.

  9. Morata is a good player the problem is the hype Milan created about a striker and at the end it was morata.
We had a budget of over 50m for the striker alone and we couldn’t find any good promising striker.
Yamal at the age of 17 already have 1 year in the la Liga!! I wonder what we do wrong when players like colombo getting seria a experience only at the age of 20

    1. Be serious, Yamal is a one in a million player, you can’t compare anyone to him. There are very few who are ready for top flight before they are 20. And by the way, Colombo never will be. He has been given chances at lower levels than leading the line for Milan and couldn’t get it done.

  10. Instead of looking for a striker who can also help carry the team when our best players (Leo, Theo and Puli) are hurt, out of form or tactically marked out (like we often saw last season)

They decided to buy a striker who is only evident in a match when his team mates are in their best game.

Rather than go for the best legs in that position [we knew Giroud was almost done for years] they decided to buy a player who would probably give his best for the next “two to three” years”

Then we start running to the market again, without selling a player, only retiring a player!!🤦🏻‍♂️

    1. The almost done Giroud who scored 39 league goals for Milan? Third last year and the fifth the prior one in Serie A. That Giroud? Seems to me that an awful lot of clubs would have wanted a player like that.
But keep complaining and showing your ignorance. I am sure that multiple top teams are knocking on your door begging for your help since you know so much better than the professionals.

  11. Who does this!! Who does this if you are really serious about being the top in world football!!

You aren’t even trying to update the best quality you have or surpass it.

You keep on patching the team like you are a vulcanizer or poor tradesman, patchwork upon patchwork.
