SM: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Torino – Pioli to put faith in same team

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is expected to name an unchanged starting line-up for the game against Torino at San Siro tomorrow night.

According to our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Mike Maignan will be in goal with Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez in defence.

In midfield, Rade Krunic will be at the base of the three with Ruben Loftus-Cheek to his right and Tijjani Reijnders to his left.

Christian Pulisic should keep his place in attack, preferred to Samuel Chukwueze. Rafael Leao will be on the left wing with Olivier Giroud up front.

Probable Milan (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

It should be a 3-4-2-1 for Ivan Juric’s side, who are expected to start Milinkovic-Savic between the posts, Schuurs, Buongiorno and Ricardo Rodriguez in defence then Bellanova and Voojvoda as wing-backs.

Ricci and Ilic should be the central midfield pairing, and in attack Radonjic and Vlasic will play in support of the lone striker Sanabria.

Probable Torino XI (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Schuurs, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Ricci, Ilic, Vojvoda; Vlasic, Radonjic; Sanabria.

  1. Its gonna be great to see, if we win, how people are gonna cry krunić to be sold and that Pioli is clueless.
Tho I recon they gonna cry about that in any case

    1. You’re right, Torino is a Scudetto contender and Krunic is a one man show, where would Milan be without him. There is no stopping Pioli and his intricate tactics. Pep really needs to stop copying him.

      1. We had an excellent record against the actual Scudetto winner last season (2 wins, 1 draw and an unlucky defeat).

We struggled against teams that dropped deep and counter-attacked including Spezia, Cremonese and Lecce.

This has been a problem for Milan for years, and is actually the biggest obstacle to us winning the title.

It’s also a reminder that there isn’t this huge gap between teams. All of the players playing in Serie A are top players: defenders are very capable of defending; and attackers capable of magic.

        Anyone can beat anyone.

Torino will be a big challenge, as they will be for any team. It’s why this nonsense about “whose hot or not” is so misguided.

    2. Not sure what point you’re trying to make. It’s the second game of the season against a club we’re supposed to beat. Let’s see how it goes against Roma and Inter. I don’t mind Krunic. Pioli is the question mark for me. But we’ll have to wait at least until November/December to judge how he’s doing with this group of players. Until then there is no point in the “HA, see!” posts.

      1. im not doing the ‘HA, see’.. I agree, we’ll see in nov/dec.
Im just foking sick of these people crying over krunić and pioli under every foking article. The a-hole Kaka leading the charge every single time. Proper fan that one, has a red and black heart

      2. It’s not about beating Roma and Inter. We had a reasonable record against the top 6 last season.

The issue is beating the so called “weaker teams”. Whoever has the best record against those teams will have the best chance.

That’s what the great Milan, Juve, Barca, Real and Bayern sides do – they more often than not beat the teams they should.

But if it was so easy for teams to beat the teams they should – well it wouldn’t be football.

    3. You do realize that Bologna passed thru our midfield with relative ease, had more possession and more scoring chances than Milan, right? Or are you one of those that just looks at the final score. We need a good DM. And a RB for that matter.

      1. so what? We won… A team playing at home had more possession than the away tham… Wow, that has never happend before. At all. Totally unheard of!

        1. Again you are looking at result and not performance. They didn’t just have more possession, they had more shots, more dangerous chances, higher expected goals. We won because Bologna had no finishers. A better team would have really punished us. There was a ton of space for Bologna to operate.

          1. Wow, that’s a very insightful comment. Hard to argue with that logic.
The same kind of fool that when they play a good team and give up 3 or 4 goals is going to say “hey, it’s just one bad game.” No, the problems have been there the whole time. you’re just to blind to see.

          2. more strawman.
I wonder if people like you have any idea what you actually want from Milan.
‘Mlatiš prazno slamo’, thats what we would say about this bs in Slo..

          3. You know, just saying strawman over and over again is not a very good argument.
I want Milan to win trophies and compete with the top teams in Europe like they used to. I want quality starting players. I know they can’t put together a team like Man City or PSG, but they can sure do better than Krunic as a starting DM.

          4. I dont need to make an argument when you’re making strawmens.. its pointless 4 me.
they aleady won a trophy and got to semis in CL last season.. And thats was all with a Krunić… I dont see whats wrong with that… If he plays and they win, whats the foking problem?

    1. We simply dont have anyone better in that position. Kalulu has been tried and he did worse. Florenzi is not better either. And despite all the critiques Calabria still has some of the best stats in the League as a RB. He has been slowing down in the past two seasons tho. I think Kalulu should slowly be given more and more time and be rotated with Calabria. That would develop Kalulu further and prepare him for the future.

  2. We have got a great squad which can score lots of goals …in particular yes Olivier Giroud…
He has now got so much pace around him .,pulisic and reafeo leao etc ..Forget Oliviers age ,just look at his technical ability in and around the 18 area ,he still has got such great awareness of bringing others into the team ..A very good win against Bologna .
The first half we were very good ,but second half we did struggle a little bit defensively..lots of teams will go to Bologna and lose points …so it’s 3 points for us .
I am expecting aother 3 points against Torino and yes I expect Olivier Giroud to score again ..I get a little fed up with some of your criticism of our team and our manager pioli ..We will challenge for honours again this season ..We know have a much better squad which is good ,because we will have to rotate from time to time …so yes in my experience and opinion after being evolved with football a long time ..We know have a much better team .
