SM: Renewal stalemate, lack of trust and January rumours – the latest on Krunic

By Isak Möller -

After making several attempts in the summer, Fenerbahce are back on Rade Krunic’s trail and this time out, AC Milan might not oppose the sale. Due to the ongoing renewal talks, the midfielder could be let go as early as January.

Krunic has struggled to impress the Milan fans since he recovered from his muscle injury, which kept him out from the end of September to mid-October. And with the renewal talks seemingly hitting a stalemate, the Rossoneri’s stance has changed slightly as well.

As highlighted by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, the renewal is not a certainty and Milan could decide to sell Krunic. The Bosnian also wants more guarantees, which could fuel the exit hypothesis.

Krunic wants guarantees

Krunic has never hidden his desire to play with greater continuity and to have a more prominent role in the team. Fenerbahce are ready to offer him this, as well as a bigger salary than the €1.2m currently received at the Rossoneri.

However, the Bosnian has never tried to force a Milan exit either. He feels comfortable at the club and can also count on the Champions League, which Fenerbahce cannot offer. There’s no doubt that the future hangs in the balance, though, with some important things to clarify.

Krunic wants answers from a corporate point of view – regarding the renewal – and from a technical point of view, as he feels the trust from Pioli is decreasing. In the win against PSG, the manager switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation and fielded Yunus Musah as well as Tijjani Reijnders in the tandem.

A potential January exit

Milan are no longer convinced that Krunic has a fundamental role in the team, as was the case in the summer. Ismael Bennacer’s return is imminent and the Rossoneri could consider a sale in January. An offer of €10m, in fact, would be hard to reject despite Bennacer’s planned AFCON adventure.

The money collected could be used in other positions, such as centre-back and centre-forward, or it could be saved for the summer. In any case, Krunic’s future with Milan is no longer certain and the management will evaluate all possibilities. The truth is that a renewal seems unlikely at the moment, and thus a sale is the best option.

    1. To be fair this is a player who is at a crossing road, who might remain with us or leave during the winter.
And given that this is the international break, I find it normal to talk about his situation.
