CM: Sottil to return to Fiorentina as Milan turn down clause offer

Rather than taking the option to sign Riccardo Sottil, it seems AC Milan will let him go at the end of his loan contract.

The move for Sottil never really worked for anyone. Arriving in January, he was supposed to provide coverage and a bit of support for Milan, but this was not really the case as he played 141 minutes during the season for the Rossoneri.

Those minutes were spread across eight games, with the Italian also failing to register a single contribution in this time. So, it is probably not a shock that the club will not make his loan move permanent this summer, despite suggestions otherwise.

A final decision

Confirmed by Calciomercato.com this morning, the club, after a few weeks of discussions, will not activate the €10 million buy clause in his loan contract. So, he will return to Florence, if he has not already.

It is worth noting that the report suggests that ‘particular attention’ was taken with the cases of loan deals going into the summer. So, whether this concerns the Italian or potentially one of the English duo remains to be seen.

However, with this news, the January window, like the summer, feels like another failure. Things have to improve this summer.
