Sport: Milan are Barcelona’s big rivals for Depay – Rossoneri have made promise involving Ibrahimovic

AC Milan are considered the ‘great rivals’ of FC Barcelona in the race to land Lyon star Memphis Depay, according to a report.

The Dutch forward has been linked with a move to Milan over the past few weeks as his contract with Lyon is set to expire in June 2021 and the management are always attentive to potential low-cost opportunities, like the Kjaer and Saelemaekers deal.

According to what is being reported by newspaper Sport (as cited by Fichajes), it is Milan who are the Italian team taking the biggest steps – above Juventus and Roma – to sign the former PSV and Manchester United winger.

They add that the Rossoneri management have already contacted the player to let him know that they want him to become the future heir to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, asking him not to sign a deal with Barcelona.

Instead, he could receive a higher net salary in Italy than that which the Catalan side propose due to the new tax relief system deployed by the government that results in a 50% tax discount for anyone who stays and works in Italy for two or more years.

The Dutchman has already made it clear in recent hours that he has not ruled out a change of scenery during the January window.

“I will not make promises that I am not sure I can keep. I think Lyon should take advantage of my presence here now, at this time. I cannot promise to stay until the end of the season,” he said.
