Sportitalia director Criscitiello: ‘Milan, the only name for the future is Conte’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan continue to think about Stefano Pioli’s successor, a journalist has claimed, and at the moment it is Antonio Conte that leads the way.

Pioli might have eased some of the calls to immediately sack him after the recent victories against Sassuolo in the league and Cagliari in the Coppa Italia, however there are still widespread reports suggesting he will not be head coach heading into 2024-25.

Sportitalia director Michele Criscitiello has always been adamant that Conte is a serious option to replace Pioli, and now he has provided an update on the situation in a video on the channel which was posted on X.

He claims that the only coach that Milan are thinking about to replace Pioli is Conte, who has of course coached both of the Rossoneri’s biggest rivals Juventus and Inter in the past decade.

Conte is seen as potentially the only realistic option as Roberto De Zerbi does not seem to want to leave Brighton while there is a perceived risk with Thiago Motta making a big step up from Bologna.

“Milan must close a cycle, which was beautiful. Pioli won a Scudetto, he gave you a semi-final in the Champions League, he achieved some objectives. He was an interim, he proved to be a winner,” Criscitiello said.

“Applause to Stefano Pioli. The cycles in football they end, especially for the coaches. Pioli gave 200%. De Zerbi? Too late. Thiago Motta leaves me with some doubts.

On Conte, he added: “Does he want to return to Milan? Yes. Does he regret leaving Inter? Probably yes, but Conte lives in Turin and has now made a life choice. Today he would open the doors to Milan.

“Inter and Juventus, despite all the political and economic problems they have had, have a winning mentality. Inzaghi has proven to be a great winner and Allegri… you can like him or not but he’s a winner. And this year they’re playing for the Scudetto. Milan must try with Conte.”

  1. No thanks. Conte is the worst decision posible. Dosent play similar formation to what we have, cant hold a job more than 2 years, messes up the whole team financialy and mentally (He is a magnet for drama in the dressing room). Terrible record in the CL as well… Better get Flick (Bayern Munich ex coach), or wait for De Zerbi in the summer. I would preffer even Motta despite him being unexperienced rather than Conte.

  2. Please god, no. Conte is the dullest coach on the planet. Have the guts to appoint a promising young manager – like Abate!

  3. Yeah he’s not bald and wears a wig so he’s better according to SempreMilan fans

Nothing else matters, pay him triple/quadruple the money to get consistently knocked out of the CL early and spend huge amounts of money on dinosaur players just to win 1 title and burn out (Literally what he did on Chelsea and Inter)

  4. The cons outweigh the pros on this ones just no. Hell no. He will literally destroy the club and morale of the players, and will turn every single forward we have into a Wing Back, no thank you.

  5. We now have so many youth players coming through and players that need a certain trust and liberties to express themselves, like Pulisic and Leao. Pioli has helped all these players, with Conte this will be the total opposite, he likes strict schemes snd experience. Conte would be a step in the wrong direction.

  6. Conte can win things, but he is not right in this time, or anytime soon, for THIS Milan!

Hiring Conte’ would mean we would absolutely lose Leao, Theo, probably Maignan, and probably Pulisic too, as Conte plays with wingbacks.

NO CONTE’. It is the wrong moment with our current players!

If in 3-4 years we’ve sold many of the core attacking players, then maybe Conte would fit better. But he likes to run. This Milan isn’t a track team. They play more mercurial style and should keep doing that.

Conte is too rigid for the style of our players. He is a manager to give a complete rebuild job when he gets to buy many players.

Come thinking, I don’t see Furlani or Redbird wanting Conte’ to argue with, so where does this come from?

  7. This is just one person’s opinion. I’m not losing sleep.

The only positive about Conte is winning mentality that this team needs.
