Stalled negotiations, Milan’s optimism and social media hints – the latest on Calhanoglu’s renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are struggling to bridge the gap between offer and demand as they continue to negotiate over Hakan Calhanoglu’s renewal.

According to TodoFichajes, Milan are in talks with the agent of Calhanoglu over the extension of his current contract which is set to expire in June 2021, however it will not be a straightforward operation.

The Spanish source even goes so far as to claim that the negotiations between the club and the player are at a standstill for the time being due to the Turkey international’s requests.

The 27-year-old has asked for a salary of €6m net per season, which signifies a huge pay rise from the current €2.5m-a-year that he receives and is an amount that Milan consider to be excessive.

Despite this, the Rossoneri management are optimistic and hope to find a compromise with Calhanoglu and with his agent Gordon Stipic.

Meanwhile, an update on the earlier story regarding a big hint from the former Leverkusen man on social media, in which he replied to a Milan account with a private message saying: “Stay calm, I’ll renew.”

The story post from the account @Banditirossoneri has now been deleted and replaced by a simple picture of Calhanoglu with three kiss face emojis, acknowledging the exchange but with the initial post having been removed likely so as not to breach the privacy.
