CorSera: Stance on Pioli could change if minimum objective is not met

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli currently has the full support of the management but if a top four finish were not secured that could change, a report claims.

According to this morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Pioli still has the esteem of the Rossoneri ownership despite the poor results domestically so far in 2023, but in the next two months things need to turn around.

Qualifying for the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League is essentially a minimum objective for Milan and one they absolutely cannot fail to achieve, so if they were to finish outside the top four it would cause reflections.

Those reflections would not just be limited to the head coach either as technical director Paolo Maldini would also come under scrutiny for the choices he and Ricky Massara made during the last summer window, ones that do not seem to have strengthened a squad that had just been crowned champions.

      1. No way he will leave a club that is Serie A Champion and most likely a champions league finalist for Milan, unless Napoli sold Osimhen and Kvicha, or a huge club came calling.

        1. Napoli would be insane NOT to sell one of them. Way over 100M€ into their bank account. But if they were to sell ’em both… Oh that would be so sweet… 🙂

  1. who knows, his contract is until 2023 and there was tenison between him and Aurelio de Laurentiis last season.. You know how he is 😀

  2. Pioli is what he is a one system coach with little tactical acumen. This is why he’s worn out his welcome at every club. He makes some positive changes gets some good results but over time his teams regress and he fails to identify the problem and eventually is replaced. I appreciate Pioli for what he has done and he deserves to be cheered for his work at Milan but the time to replace him is now (actually the end of the season).

This. 100% accurate. “Thank you for the scudetto but you’ve reached your limit and need to go. Bye.”
