‘A team that sweats for the shirt’ – Tare names the values he expects at Milan

The new AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare has insisted that he wants San Siro to ‘explode with joy’ when watching the team play.

Tare’s appointment as the new director of Milan was made official on Monday afternoon, bringing an end to a saga that had been ongoing for several weeks. He became operational on the same day, meeting with agents and the Roma management to begin planning for the future.

One thing is certain: a big improvement is needed on 2024-25, a campaign that saw the Rossoneri finish eighth in the league table, lose the Coppa Italia final to Bologna and get dumped out of the Champions League by Feyenoord.

Tare has sat down with Milan TV for his first proper interview since joining – which you can read in full here – and he answered questions on a number of topics, including what he wants to see from the team on the field.

“Belonging is very important to me, the players who come to Milan must understand right away that this shirt and this stadium have an important weight, we must be good at transmitting it to our players,” he said.

“It’s all linked to the final result that concerns the field and the victory on the field, then there are other steps to take that will arrive over the next week and we will have the opportunity to present them.

“I want to see a team that sweats for the shirt and wants to win, I want to see San Siro explode with joy, I will give my all to make it happen, it is beautiful to see the Milanese fans react to victories.

“I feel excited and very fulfilled because I have realised a dream that I have carried with me for many years, for me this means a lot.”
