It appears that AC Milan are now firmly behind RB Leipzig in their pursuit of Mohamed Simakan, according to reports from France.
A statement on Strasbourg’s official website on Tuesday confirmed that Simakan must undergo an arthroscopy which will keep him away from the field for a period of about two months, leading to suggestions Milan are now hesitating.
According to Telefoot journalist Sebastian Denis, Leipzig are on pole for Simakan having taken the lead over Milan for the signing of the 20-year-old. The German club wants to complete the operation in the coming days before loaning him to Strasbourg until the end of the season.
He adds that things have become ‘seriously complicated’ for Milan while Borussia Dortmund have concretely entered the race in recent hours, but they are starting from a position well behind their Bundesliga rivals and even the Serie A side.
