AC Milan defender Filippo Terracciano believes that he needs minutes to get confidence, but chose to stay in the summer because he thought he would get those opportunities.
Milan got a much needed three points against Monza on Saturday night, beating them 1-0 at the U-Power Stadium. It was far from a Serie A classic, but the only goal of the game came late in the first half as Tijjani Reijnders pounced on a blocked Alvaro Morata header to put the Rossoneri 1-0 up.
In the build-up there had been suggestions that Terracciano would be shifted from playing left-back as he did for the Napoli game to playing on his preferred right side, and he did indeed get the nod over Davide Calabria and Emerson Royal.
Terracciano spoke alongside the head coach Paulo Fonseca in a post-match press conference after last night’s victory, which brought an important clean sheet too, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
Was it nice to get a start?
“When I play with the right amount of minutes I can find confidence. The moment is positive. I believe in myself, I chose to stay at Milan because I wanted to prove my worth.”
What difficulties did you run into?
“From the back we worked well, some transitions were managed well. I would also say in the second half, when we switched to three [man defence] it also went well. I like to push forward, but then it also depends on the games.
“Sometimes you need to stay tight even for spacial readings. The important thing is to help the team, I always try to collaborate with my teammates in terms of movements. With mister Fonseca we work on these aspects also studying the opponents.”
How important is Reijnders?
“Reijnders is important, like the other teammates. In the defensive phase he played a great game and on his quality I have little to say, everyone knows his potential. In defence I underline that he did a great job.”
I thought he did well in this game.
Often played on the right of a back 3 when Theo went forward.
Something that Emerson and Calabria are not as well suited to.
Why waste money to buy Emerson in the first place??
He is way more stable than Emerson, a bit naive at times but he’s young, definitely better than Emerson
One thing that was clear in that game is that Terra doesn’t have a preferred flank. He is equally terrible on both sides ….
