Some more background has emerged regarding Paulo Fonseca’s sacking as the head coach of AC Milan, and why it all seemed to happen so fast.
According to Calciomercato.com, Fonseca was convinced he could lift Milan but he was perhaps the only one who was. He often repeated it in the last press conferences but it wasn’t enough to convince a management that never supported him as it should have done.
Distance grew between the Portuguese coach and Zlatan Ibrahimovic week by week. There were some discussions at Milanello but they were more for show than anything else, because the Swede only shows up when he needed to rather than every day.
Milan have turned to Sergio Conceiçao, who has already signed a contract until the end of the season. The most surprising news, however, is that the directors had an agreement with the former Porto coach for several days.
Since the day after the victory against Verona, there was an agreement in place. Jorge Mendes contacted the Rossoneri again a month ago to propose his client, waiting a few days and then intensifying the discussions.
Fonseca has paid for several things: first of all a league table that sees Milan in eighth place and 14 points behind Atalanta in first place. Ibrahimovic has never been happy with the disconnect with the team and the constant conflict with some of the big names in the squad.
This very issue was the reason for a lively discussion between the two before the match with Roma. The management were also firmly convinced that they had assembled a strong team, worthy of the Scudetto, which Fonseca was not able to get the best out of.
Geoffrey Moncada had chosen him for the attacking game he showed with Lille and had also preferred him to Conceiçao last summer. After six months, he has changed his mind and a U-turn has come about.
The only aspect of this story that is still unclear concerns the timing: if Milan had reached an agreement with Conceiçao and had decided to sack Fonseca, why didn’t they do it directly a week ago? A question that only they can answer at the moment.
Scudetto team? No. Top 4 team? Yes, we have 3rd best squad if we consider Inter, and one of Atalanta/Napoli to be better assembled.
Fonseca was delivering in UCL but underachieving big time in Serie A, hence was sacked.
I hope we get some quality additions this mercato.
Player for player Milan are better than Atlanta dude. Look at the talent on our roster. Aside CDK and Lookman, who is the other serious name in their attack? Which midfielder they have that’s as good as Reijnders or Fofana? They’re just a better team than Milan. Even Napoli…they don’t have better players than Milan. They’re just better coached. A quality coach with a good preseason can challenge for the Scudetto with this Milan side, no question!
Player for player we’re better …..goes on to name two players who are better than our players 🤦♂️
Plus they have actual defensive mids…DeRoon and Ederson because their squad is properly constructed and have an actual sporting director
Agree. When we played Atalanta a few weeks ago it really sunk in to me that our squad is no better.
Maybe a couple of better stars like Leao, Maignan and Theo (pre current form).
But they had far more depth and much better coverage in certain areas like DMs and more than one LB.
He probably hasn’t seen atalanta squad and how better and much more structured with actual depth it is than Milan.
All these blind fans see are individual players, or individual performances and then conclude that Milan is better or has a much better squad than most seriea counterparts.
🤦♂️🤦♂️ I wonder do they even look at the squad to see how mismanaged and disjointed it is, or they just see Pulisic Mike and one or two and believe Milan can challenge for the scudetto and the throne of Olympus 😒🙄
Ibras was just cla8ming in the summer Milan didn’t need a top level manager… now he’s fallen flat on his face and cowardly tried to shuffle the mistake out the door. Fonseca was never going to work, but you idiots brought him in. This is entirely on you. Don’t get mad at him because you were dumb enough to sign him. You don’t get mad at a broken drill when you try and fail to use it on a shelf, you knew it wasn’t gonna work. It’s your own fault
I have to agree with you
Exactly.
What you’re saying just doesn’t make sense.
As a manager bringing in a coach to a top level club you would never say the man you were bringing in wasn’t top level.
He said Fonseca to him was a top coach and he said they needed a coach not a manager when asked why not Conte. The whole fall flat on face is because we’re in 8th and Conte’s team is second.
Exactly dude!
What an epic disaster. We went from M&M to this? “ the Swede only shows up when he needed to rather than every day”
LOLOLO. How Embarassing. Keep collecting those paychecks Ibra.
Gerry hired Fonseca and didn’t consult with Zlatan?? LOL.
What a 🤡 show.
We had to wait over 10 years of trash to finally claim the Scudetto (and relevance) again – and now it has all been undone in 2 short seasons.
Bring Elliot back instead of this garbage.
Is Conceaiceao the right coach?? Who knows honestly but we do know is that he is CHEAP and was willing to take a terrible short term deal (6 months with TEAM option to extend for a year)???? LOLOLOLO. Again management has ZERO faith in the coach – offering him a 6 month deal – you cannot make this crap up.
What grand ambition we have! 🤣🤡🤣🤡 But keep that PROFIT rolling in for your INVESTORS Gerry my boy!!
To be honest, it’s not a bad contract. Let’s not forget Pioli was hired similarly and did wonders although i never fully supported him due to lack of tactical intelligence. Chelsea sacked 3 managers in 1 season who had a lengthy term. It’s like burning money. It’s a cautious approach. I respect it, conceição is a great coach. His team always shows character something we lack for a while.
If you’re going to complain at least let it be legit
Pioli had little accolades at the time while coaching for many years at mostly less prestigious clubs. It was his last chance saloon at a big club and he did well …thankfully. Conceicao on the other hand is touted as a big coach and is relatively younger in his career with decent success albeit in a lower league. Its a bit of a difference there
It is a bad faith. Him been touted as a big coach, and taking a six month job with a surety of failure and a poorly built team that is now missing a good piece of its quality due to injury screams bad decision making.
And especially above all, those who first praised Fonseca when he was signed and said he did well in Ukraine and that he was a good coach, would fall and turn on conceicao if he does fail.
Why would you do that to yourself. If he was coming in on a brand new season, or if he accepted a better duration deal than six month that would make more sense.
The same gallery of rogues who turned on and rejoiced Fonseca sacking are still here, and will do same to Conceicao if he fails. With that in mind he should not have taken such a poorly structured deal from an incompetent management. Sarri had the good grace and common sense to not do such.
Sergio Conceicao image is on the line now.
Man that 6 month contract is worrysome. You kinda have to wonder what is going on both with him and the ppl who hired him. Good luck to dude because his CV looks decent but at this point he looks more beggar than chooser.
This management is a joke. They aren’t fit to run a club like ac Milan. They’re as delusional as some/most commentators on here.
Moncada and Ibra need to hand in them papers and tale a long vacation far away from Milano, far away from Italy. Preferably somewhere way down south in Chile.
If I were to fire, I would have fired Ibrahimovic first and May be another before firing Fonseca
True
Zlatan is a joke and full of empty mouth like a parrot talking garbage. They all came to destroy Milan which great players like van Basten Rikard Gullit Papin George Weah Cafu kaka suffered to build.
He knows he’s a failure with other members of the management.
Papin did nothing for us. He was a massive flop. Cafu was great for Roma, he was past his prime when he joined Milan.
Clash of the egos. Stay tuned for more.
Maybe not a scudetto team but I’ll say one thing. I truly think we got stronger compared to last season and we finished second. So to go from second to 8th place with a stronger team is fonseca. I think from day one the players never bought into him and that’s why our play has suffered.
When Ibra got question about Conte, he said that Conte didn´t met managment criteria but Fonzo did. I thougt ´what a moron´!
Conte wanted to bye couple of players and Gerry said no and thats the criteria. Conte sits joint leader of Serie A and we are -14 with a game in hand. This muppet Conceicao will meet the same destini like Fonzo. Management should fire themselves with big nose moron first out and every Milan soul should pray and beg Maldini to come back.
conceicao isn’t a bad coach tho
