GdS: ‘The price is right’ – Milan expecting to complete €35m deal for De Ketelaere today

By Oliver Fisher -

After two meetings with Club Brugge and constant negotiations, AC Milan have once again raised their offer to Charles De Keteleaere.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that Milan have put forward a bid worth €31m as a fixed amount and €4m in bonuses. The Belgian club could ask the Rossoneri for a further effort in terms of how the bonuses are achieved and a potential resale clause, but Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are expecting the green light from Brugge tonight.

Never before has the finish line of this seemingly endless negotiation been so close, the paper writes, and while the deal is not fully closed Milan are absolutely optimistic that the Belgian attacking midfielder will soon be in their ranks.

The player for his part has been pushing for his transfer to Milanello for the past week and an agreement between the player and the Rossoneri has been there for some time over on a five-year deal at around €2.3m net per season.

      1. I just read that his agent said he will lower his salary demand from 2.7 to 2.2…. it’s 500k/year salary cut, just like what I said few days ago regarding what he should do to push the move…

        Get him quick!

  1. I’ll believe it when I see it. If the rumoured structure is correct, this will mean Brugge agreeing to waive an extra €4-6m that they could receive from Leeds and that’s a huge amount of money.

  2. I’m still skeptical with this kid. For me he will end up like Andre Silva in Milan, or maybe Piatek at least (I am not talking about their position, before you so guys so called football genius start mentioning about different position blabla). Just not worth the hype, effort, and money. I wish I am wrong in this one

    1. He nutmegged $rumma at Nations League, his agent just said he will lower his salary demand to push the move (like Tonali). These are enough for me.

    2. Don’t even compare him with Piatek Lol, De Ketelaere is proper talent who has played phenomenally in his UCL matches and even at just turning 21 has more UCL experience than most players in our squad

    3. Serie A is a weird beast. Plenty of players have failed here (Mendieta, Ortega, Diego Ribas, Coutinho just to name a few off the top of my head).
The reason is that Serie A defenders and midfielders always attemp to frustrate opponents.
To give a bad example from our recent history, even Honda when he came initially was like a fish out of water, getting pushed out of the ball with ease, but he grew in the following seasons, and was able to shield the ball and move it much faster.
In Italy, a playmaker needs to know when to move with the ball and take a potential foul, and when to pass the ball quickly. From what I’ve heard, CDK is fairly smart and his ability to play various roles should help him adjust accordingly. Albertini said he’s closer to Boban rather than Kaka… I personally haven’t seen CDK play so I can’t judge.

  3. He can be like Andre Silva if we don’t manage him properly. We should not expect him to do much especially because of the price tag. He should be introduced gradually into the team just like an average player…This way , he won’t be under pressure….. Thank God the guys have discovers themselves…. With Leao , Adli, Rebic, Diaz, , the guy will play well

  4. Charles can’t be like Andre, we have a different coach and our approach in games differs, moreover we ain’t starting from a scratch, Pioli have already lead a foundation. He will be great.
