AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez believes that the team had a ‘good match’ against Spezia and should have put the game to bed earlier than they did.
Everything looked to be going well for the Rossoneri when Theo gave them the lead after an excellent bit of control in the box to bring down a ball around the back from Ismael Bennacer and then an instinctive stabbed finish at the near post.

However, Daniel Maldini had the San Siro crowd shaking their heads in disbelief as he scored a fantastic goal against his parent club to equalise, and in the end it took Olivier Giroud to win the game off the bench with a sensational volley in the final minute.
Theo Hernandez was interviewed by Sky (via MilanNews) after the game to reflect on what was a very hard fought three points in the end and a more complicated game than it should have been.
Was it a fundamental victory? “It was a good match. In the first half we had 4-5 scoring chances. After their equaliser it was difficult, then came Giroud’s goal which was wonderful.”
An important victory to respond to Napoli: “We must always win. We played very badly against Torino, today we are happy.”
On Daniel Maldini: “He is a great player, he must play and we are waiting for him here as soon as possible.”
Are you happy with Pioli’s renewal in the dressing room? “Yes, we are happy that Pioli is staying with us. Now we have to work well.”
Does the armband make you feel good? “You see it on the pitch, don’t you? I’m happy.”
Theo Hernandez also spoke to DAZN after the game, with his comments again relayed by MilanNews.
On the many missed chances: “We started well, we had 4-5 clear chances. Then Giroud took care of it.”
On his physical problem at the start of the first half: “I’m fine, all right, calm.”
On the next games: “We have to win the two games we have and we have to work well.”
On the players who are negotiating over a renewal: “The players who have to renew I want them to stay with us. Then they will talk to Maldini.”
It would be a shame to take the The-ao [Theo and Leao partnership] apart: “Yes, yes (laughs).”
They say Sandro Tonali is just physical and grit(grinta). That he lacks vision and technique…..I just hope after today’s game, he should finally be acknowledged and respected as a complete midfielder and a star indeed. Forza Milan!
