The future is yet to be decided for Theo Hernandez, but further confirmations have arrived that AC Milan’s renewal offer involves a pay cut.
According to Calciomercato.com, the extension of Theo is not a priority for the management at the moment, unlike those of Christian Pulisic and Mike Maignan. Why? It’s a question of performances and money, with the former having been sub-par and the latter being a sticking point.
Milan have made it clear to Theo’s entourage that they would like to keep his current salary figure of €4.5m net per season plus bonuses. There will be no ‘Leao-level’ offers from the club, no increase to €6m plus bonuses as was mooted until a few months ago.
Theo in the balance
Theo Hernandez is important for the Rossoneri, a player who can be world class, but this season he has had a few too many shortcomings in compares to the levels of performance seen in the Scudetto season.
This has also been the case in terms of leadership, given the red cards (vs. Fiorentina and Feyenoord) and other disciplinary issues like the cooling break and the Fiorentina penalty saga, all of which lost him the armband.
Theo is happy at Milan, he wants to stay and at the moment he is not considering other offers, not even rich ones from Saudi Arabia. He would like to continue for many more years with the shirt that belonged to his idol Paolo Maldini.
The Frenchman will think about a new challenge only if he is shown the door, if from above he is told: ‘You are on the market’. At the moment it is not in Giorgio Furlani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s plans: a renewal remains the primary option at the moment, but at lower figures.
So we went from “lowering his salary” to “keep his salary”. These articles and their sources are something aren’t they ?
Modern Journalism.
They basically make up articles with sensational headline and then they say nothing.
The issue is not journalism. It’s capitalism. Half of these sites are simply vehicles for ad sales. The “content” is designed to get people to open the articles and then hopefully click on one of the ads. And then those ads are all for cr@p. If those ads did not exist, 75% if the websites on the internet would not exist, and you’d be left with more substantial content.
We also went from Theo can’t function without Maldini, and he would ask to leave because Paolo isnt with the club anymore, to he is happy at Milan, would like to continue with Milan for many more years and he wouldn’t even consider other offers, even rich ones from Saudi Arabia.
Bs ….seems very little credible
YOU.WILL.NOT.FIND.A.BETTER.REPLACEMENT.FOR.THEO!!!
Not with this management.
Theo is still top 5 left back in the world even with the season he’s had and regardless of what haters say in the these comments especially. Every club knows how well he can play, he still does it for France. It’s not just him in the team that’s had a terrible season. Only Reinjders can safely say he had a decent season. The rest no. So I don’t under why ppl pile on to one player. The only player still without a viable sub in the team.
My bet is he’ll go to Madrid if the club wants to sell. They need a LB. And we’ll replace Theo with a “Musah”
Can’t wait to see that Real MAdrid defense with Alexander Arnold on one side and Theo on the other. Courtois is already having nightmares.
It’s so funny when people talk about Theo being one of the best LB’s in the world, they are only talking about his offensive abilities. And we are talking about a defender… You might want to factor in defensive abilities when talking about a defender.
“It’s not just him in the team that’s had a terrible season. Only Reinjders can safely say he had a decent season. The rest no. So I don’t under why ppl pile on to one player.”
This is one of the most clueless statements I’ve ever read.
Really? Pulisic can’t say he had a decent season? He leads the team in goals and in assists. I’ll assume that was just an accidental oversight on your part and that you haven’t completely lost your mind.
And again, it’s not just about Theo’s performance , which has been bad. It’s about his poor effort and even worse attitude. He’s selfish and lazy and disrespectful. The only reason Theo wants to stay is because he knows he would never get away with his antics at any other big club.
This. 100% this. He may be a great player, but his attitude is crap. Imagine if he acted the way he did this year and we reward him for it. It’s like giving a crappy child candy because they threw a tantrum.
I can’t stand my leaders in my company but I still do my job and get paid well to do it. Couldn’t even imagine what would happen if I threw a sissy fit every time I didn’t get what I wanted at work.
But he is also mainly judged by the offensive abilities. Every match ratings, when Theo does not provide assist, goal or doesnt have 4 runs on goal, he is given 5.5 automatically.
Thats how we judge a defender…
That’s because his defense is so poor, that if he doesn’t score or assist he brings nothing to the team. He is actually hurting the team with his defense.
I agree with you brother. We won’t get a LB as good as Theo if we push him out the door and Gerry will screw us in the Transfer Market. Theo has had a bad season by his standard but he still forces teams to plan for him. Leao is similar, by his standard he has had a bad season but every team still doubles him and fears him.
People bring up Theo’s defensive issues but I think the midfield is more to blame for that than anyone on the backline. He is a decent defender when he wants to be as we see it when the team is playing well and always against Inter. You could argue he has a motivation issue (no real backup) and that could be explained by many factors. The foolish red cards and disrespectful behavior is indefensible and that does need to change. These behaviors could also be related to Maldini, management, and DT choices.
I think Gerry knows which players (Theo, Rafa, Mike, & CP) the fans come to see and he won’t sell unless he gets a top offer.
@Krunic’s Heir Precisely! And I do agree with his performances this season. But we also know what he’s capable of. He’s tired and fatigued, a huge issue for him that is head and shoulders above anyone else in the team….when you’re fatigued you don’t think right. Think job, family etc..its the same thing. Fatigue will lead to poor decisions. And I’ve been ban.ging the drum on him not having a capable sub for years now and now they’re laying the bed. He hasn’t had a capable sub FOR YEARS! His $5m sub that he used to get a breather from time to time is gone. Jiminez, Terrribleciano, Bartesaghi, you name it, none did anything to warrant troubling his spot…regardless of how bad his form was.
When he has the ball he’s capable of scoring or assisting all by himself, he can turn a game on it’s head in 5 seconds (the three I mentioned above cannot do that). And that what separates him from regular full backs….that’s what people here fail to see. We be having top players in positions and wanting them out for poor reasoning. I just don’t trust (this) management to replace him adequately. Didn’t they say Jiminez was his back up and he’s playing right wing now? Smh. I just don’t believe in what these guys do or say.
I agree with you on your entire post, except the Reinjders part. He isn’t have a decent season, he’s having a fantastic season so is Christian Pulisic!!
Yes. But that also feeds into the bigger point doesn’t it, if we’re looking for only a grand total of 2 players who have had a good season. I hadn’t included Puli in as I thought he had or was having a difficult time under Sarge (didn’t think he was super with Fonz either) but fair enough to include. His numbers look good, about as good as last year, but so does Leao thereabouts…so then is he also having a good season? But things go beyond the numbers. Anyways a bit in the weeds here but the point was most of the team is having a bad season. A quick glance at the table shows this. Said this halfway through the season I feel bad for Deers not being able to match his performances with more tangible successes, minor cup trophies aside.
Yeah pay him 10m/yr because IKWYDLS said so, he is a genius afterall
we need more of Theo arguing with random players while there is a match going on and to steal penalties to stroke his ego
Really, I cannot wait till this guy is sold and we get an Emerson of LB.
Emerson Common.
It’s time to let Theo go in my opinion. His behavior and attitude were toxic too much of the season. He also has some type of hold on the team’s consciousness that prohibits us from playing as a tem.
There’s some type of “cool kids” clique of Theo and Leao. They own the locker room, I’m guessing, and create a culture of “everything good goes through us.” So everyone passes the ball to them to try to attack up the left. Every time.
One reason to let Theo go is to break up that clique and allow Tijji and Puli to step more into control and leadership of the team.
Keep Leao, let Theo go.
Just sign the contract.
Theo needs rest and get his head straight for next season. We know he has been looking tired since the Euros.
To get a similar player we will have to pay a lot and a sign-on fee too. It’s too much money for this leadership.
Maignan, Theo, Reijnders and Pulisic should be the base of the team.
I like Leao but he needs to show more. Hopefully he can show high levels next season and then the richer clubs can pay a lot for him.
We need better players than Thiaw, Gabbia, Tomori and Pavlovic too but we can only take away two of them so we don’t have to completely start over.
And we need to get rid of Emerson and Chukwueze.
Keeping stars at the team is how do you make the club grows in popularity. When we sell him we will get 3-4 musah in his and other positions.
Inter has massive debts but they always manage to cover them with selling their stars but different from us, they buy equally good players as substitute and others that actually keep them stays on the top for many years.
So for those that wish him to be sold, good luck when Milan finally turn to a Napoli or Atalanta level
Get. Rid of him and take leao with him good bloody ridence .they neither of them have there hearts in milan I think you can see that on the pitch.
