Pietro Mazzara believes that the way Theo Hernandez’s farewell to AC Milan has come about is sad, with both parties feeling some regrets.
After six seasons in Serie A – with 262 appearances, 34 goals and 45 assists – Theo is preparing to leave Milan. The Rossoneri have reached an agreement with Al-Hilal over the transfer fee and he is now one step away from Saudi Arabia.

This was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano who stated: “Theo Hernández to Al Hilal, here we go! Agreement now being sealed after verbal pact made two weeks ago. AC Milan will receive €25m transfer fee as Theo will sign his contract in the upcoming days. New left back for Simone Inzaghi.”
It comes after a season in which the Frenchman was way below the usual high levels of performance, making a number of blunders such as the cooling break saga in Rome and the penalty debacle in Florence, as well as a costly red card in the second leg against Feyenoord.
‘Suffered sensationally’
Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews and he dedicated the final part of it to Theo’s situation, confirming that his exit is close but it is nothing to celebrate.
“The most imminent is that of the full-backs, where this week Theo Hernandez will leave for Al-Hilal. It is right to pause for a moment on this whole affair, putting the points together,” he began.
“Theo, for two and a half years, was the strongest left-back around, without a shadow of a doubt, and anyone who says otherwise has had salami slices over their eyes.
“He suffered sensationally from the sacking of Paolo Maldini first and then Stefano Pioli, who was more than a coach with him. Then the tug-of-war over the renewal, with Milan deciding not to delve into the discussions.
“In the meantime, a performance no longer worthy of Theo and the sale, which then did not materialise, in January to Como for 42 million and then the inevitable one to Al Hilal for 25 plus bonuses to get to 30. Both parties could and should have done more to protect themselves.”

Oliver, will you please stop writing such articles for once? I don’t understand the point of it. Milan is bigger than any player. If Theo depended on Maldini and Pioli to perform, then he deserves nothing but Saudi league.

I knew this article was coming. Another Theo apologist making excuses for a grown 27 year old man who is getting paid millions and can’t behave like a professional if he doesn’t have his “daddy” around to hold his hand. This is pathetic. If you keep treating these grown men like they are children they are going to keep behaving like spoiled children.
This just confirms what we have seen from Theo. A sensational talent who is not mature and not balanced mentally and emotionally. Hopefully he can sort it out in Saudi.

They all wanted to leave .. maybe not Maldini but his behavior said he wanted. There is a boss on every workplace and you have to listen to them no matter what you think, or else you change job.

In general it feels like the players these days are so much more psychologically frail… Makes sense that Maldini was Theo’s hero and a big influence. But in turn, Maldini didn’t collapse after Sacchi and Capello left…. He put his big boy undies on, remained consistent and performed.

At Maldini era, even sacchi / capello left the club But there’s 2 patrons still at the club: berlusconi + Galliani. That’s why ac Milan didn’t collapse.

When berlusconi build the great Milan, they build from one simple thing: family. That’s why when the Americanism sacked Maldini, they ruined players mentality too. You can see Theo the all-time top scorer Milan defender, leao and maignan too, they not living up their quality. The American build like 1 + 1= 2. Italian football isn’t like that. More than that.
What a ridiculous comment. Berlusconi just bought a bunch of high priced players, before Financial Fair Play was a thing. Drove the team into massive debt, which they then had to sell their best players and it took the team about 10 years to recover from.
I agree with this pietro mazzara , he is always reliable journalist for milanews. Pioli tactical quality below other coach rival like sarri, simone, alegri but he can win scudetto because he is like father figure for young player ACM also paolo & massara motivating them and watch all their match in stadium . Look at last season sergio say he dont wanna become friend or close with player and most of player unity just to make him out, the management like ibra & furlani are also gone after the result from team are bad
