AC Milan are approaching a crossroads regarding the future of Theo Hernandez, amid poor form and a deal not too far from expiring.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress) report this morning that the latest headlines surrounding Theo and his relationship with Paulo Fonseca could not have come at a worse time.
While it is true that Milan are relying heavily on the qualities of the left-back, the ‘dizzying decline in performance’ has been going on for some time now. He isn’t contributing goals or assists, and his defensive lapses are worrying.
Away from the field, the Frenchman’s future is becoming a puzzle. Although his contract expiration isn’t until 2026, a crossroads is approaching: if he doesn’t extend by May, a sale becomes the only way to raise funds. And there have been no renewal developments for some time.
Nonetheless, there is still plenty of runway for Theo to turn his form around and for the extensions talks to take a positive turn. There is a third option too: a renewal and a sale, which would mean the defender helps the club financially while looking for new stimuli elsewhere.
His market value has dropped significantly, though. Theo was worth around €100m at one point and now he is worth around half of that, while he wants €8m net per season. Until recently, he was undoubtedly willing to stay, but we must wait and see if that changes.
The way this club is managed he will probably go to Inter or Juve…..!
No worries, they don’t want him because they have better players than him in his position.
These would be the sort of players we would go after lol 😂 how have the turn tables 🤭
It look like theo want his big salary increase (8 million salary).
The current salary (4 million salary) don’t motivate him anymore.
Theo: “play like a crap, be a captain of milan. Theo the crap captain”
I’m beginning to see Theo as toxic. I don’t understand why he has an attitude problem, but he may in fact be a source of discontent in the locker room. He was involved in the cooling break incident, the penalty incident and his form has been abysmal this season. We don’t need this. It could, in fact, be best if he left. I like him as a player, and he’s been very good for us, if always a little suspect defensively, but “sacrificing” him could be what makes this squad turn the corner.
It would have been good to have sold him last summer for 70-80 million and brought in his place Dorgu from Lecce for 15-20 million…
From day 1 after Maldini was fired, Theo has been gradually become less patient with Milan. Once pioli was fired too and Fonseca was the replacement really seemed to put Theo over the edge he looks depressed.
I say let this whole thing play out. Could be an off the field issue.
This may be best managed by the group of key players, the ones who are the core of the team moving forward. Fofana, Gabbia, Leao, Maignon, Pulisic and Reijnders.
If Theo wants to play hard with this group, Milan will be a better team.
If Theo does not want to play hard with this group, Milan will be a better team without him.
He certainly isn’t getting that 8mil contract at this rate. He’s barely been worth what he’s paid rn this season. Ineffective going forward, and lazy in defense. Never captain material. Bench him for bartesaghi until he gets his act together. At least Bart will try and mark his man
Incompetency of management to sell or extend his contract will be blamed on Theo form this year.
But he is still playing at good level with national team.
He isn’t lack of good offer’s nor good teams, he will be surely taken by Italian teams also if the management acts the same like now because he can go on free.
Even if they sell now they will get max 35m for 1year contract in June 2025 or loose him for free in June 2026.
Even if Milan get 40m, they need to buy 1starter and 1backup which they haven’t succeeded in 2last transfer windows.
