Thiaw discusses first season with Milan: “I never expected to play right away”

Malick Thiaw was one of the positive surprises for AC Milan this past season as he quickly performed on a high level after being given the chance. In a recent interview, he opened up about the first season at the club.

Thiaw made his debut for the German national team last night and even though they lost 1-0 to Poland, the Milan defender was named the MOTM by the newspaper Bild. Germany manager Hansi Flick also praised him after the game.

Speaking to Bild after the game, as cited by Radio Rossonera, Thiaw shared his thoughts on the first year with Milan. He made it clear that the start wasn’t difficult for him, as he never expected to play that much immediately anyway.

“It wasn’t that difficult to settle in because I never expected to play right away, when you move from Schalke to the Italian champions… I’m still very satisfied with how things are going at Milan, and I’m incredibly grateful to Milan for having given me the opportunity to wear the Rossoneri colours,” he stated.

Next season, Thiaw will be competing mainly with Pierre Kalulu and Simon Kjaer for a spot in the starting eleven. As things stand, he’s certainly ahead of both and he shouldn’t be that worried.

  1. Kessie made our defense look much better than it really was and it shows. These guys didn’t become dull over night, he compensated for their limitations.

    1. its all about tactics. pioli didnt adjust, the cbs are fine.
romagnoli 4 example. not gud enough for pioli, got his second wind under sarri

      1. True. We didn’t find proper replacement, yet the coach didn’t adjust his system. Playing with the same exact system without the key piece of his system.
