AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw was pleased with the way that the team managed to bounce back after their recent disappointing league form with a 2-0 win over Lecce.
It was far from a vintage performance from Milan but they did get the job done this evening at home, and they had Rafael Leao to thank as he scored a goal in each half – one with his head and one with his left foot – to see off a plucky opponent.
In truth the Rossoneri were frustrated for large parts of the game by a team who sat deep and attempted to pick their moments on the counter-attack, but it is a massive three points and another clean sheet that was also welcome.
Thiaw spoke to DAZN after the match to dissect what was a hard fought three points and a much-needed win given just how tight the top four race is. His comments were relayed by MilanNews and have been translated below.
On the importance of the victory: “It was a very important match because especially after today’s results it was important to obtain the three points. This is the work we must continue to do. Next week will be important too.”
On Leao: “His talent and potential is incredible, you see it in every match. He has the potential to be one of the best or the best in his role. It’s very stimulating to train with him and against him because he helps us improve.”
On the Euroderby: “Of course, we have two. But these are special in the Champions League, it will be really nice.”
