Thiaw ‘happy’ to have earned Pioli’s confidence: “We are a strong group”

By Oliver Fisher -

Centre-back Malick Thiaw admitted he is ‘happy to have contributed’ to tonight’s 1-0 win for AC Milan at home against Torino.

Thiaw made his first league start of the calendar year and he was a huge part of a clean sheet that was desperately needed, even being deservedly named as the man of the match in our player ratings from the game.

It was far from a vintage performance however it was three very much needed points to end a run of seven games without a win and four defeats on the spin, registering a first clean sheet since November 8 too to move back into the top four for the time being.

Thiaw was interviewed by DAZN at the end of the game to analyse what was a very hard fought win against a difficult opponent and a positive start for him.

“We are not coming from an easy situation, the important thing was to win and get out of the rut, we are happy with Olivier’s goal. We are a strong group,” he said (via MilanNews).

“I’m happy to have contributed, we were compact in the second half. It was important to protect Milan’s goal tonight. I’m happy to have started from the first minute. I’m happy with the confidence of the coach and with this victory.”

  1. This guy needs to start. Kjaer has lost it. Calabria and Tomori are inconsistent. Kalulu is good but not back to the level he was last season. Thiaw is strong, tall, and very smart. I think Pioli is finally recognizing that.

    1. The issue with kalulu is lack of concentration and holding of the ball too much thereby not making the correct ball on time and the end the balance would shift and before you know it we are being attacked. Releasing the ball instead of turning is the major issues with him..

You are a Defender not an attacking midfielder

  2. For me I think Milan is a weak team and if we play like I saw today against the others teams hun I’m afraid of the result!
