Thiaw says Milan are ‘totally focused’ on Empoli and discusses four-man backline

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Empoli, Malick Thiaw spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s situation after the 4-0 trashing against Napoli. He assured that they are fully focused on tonight’s task.

The German centre-back is back in the starting XI after getting replaced by Simon Kjaer against Napoli. Although the youngster has done well lately, it’s possible that he could be benched against the Partenopei on Wednesday, unless he really shines today.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Thiaw assured the fans by saying that Milan are fully focused on tonight’s clash and not the upcoming Champions League tie. He also gave an update on his own situation.

On returning to the field…

“I’m fine, I hope I’m better after the game!”

Is it difficult to stay focused with the Champions League on the horizon?

“Of course, it’s not easy when there’s the Champions League but now we’re thinking about the present and we’re totally focused on tonight.”

First time with Milan in the 4-man defence…

“I’ve played a lot of games in a four-man backline, it’s not new to me and I’m used to playing in such a formation.”

As said, Thiaw would have to really shine today to convince Stefano Pioli to start him against Napoli on Wednesday. That’s the feeling anyway, given that Kjaer did extraordinarily well in the game at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
