Malick Thiaw Germany

Thiaw with a MOTM-performance in his Germany debut – the highlights

Malick Thiaw made his official debut for Germany last night as he played from start against Poland. Even though they lost the game 1-0, the AC Milan defender was named the best German player on the pitch.

Thiaw was an important player for Milan in the second half of the season and this has earned him a spot in the German national team. Last night, he got to make his debut die Mannschaft faced Poland in a friendly.

The Milan centre-back was brilliant from start to finish and prevented several good opportunities. He couldn’t do much about the goal (came on a corner) and was given a 2 by Bild, with 1 being the best and 6 being the worst. As such, he was the MOTM for Germany.

Scout7Calcio published quite a lot of videos of Thiaw from yesterday’s game and Milan fans can look at these (see below) with great delight. He nearly scored a goal as well, but was denied by a fantastic save.

  1. This boy is a gem.

Dunno about other transfer but most of defensive player transfer during Maldini is a good one,

    – Theo
    – Kjaer
    – Tomori
    – Kalulu
    – Thiaw
    – Florenzi (good if not injured)

    The bad ones

    – Ballo Toure (actually not that bad when played, but not good enough for Theos cover – but hard to find one for cheap)
    – Dest (emergency one)

    1. The big surprise for me was why Maldini of all people could not see the advantage of having defenders playing across multiple positions so as to maximise cohesion which is essential to defences.

Man City deployed John Stones in multiple positions this season.

Maldini himself played CB and LB.

Costacurta played across the back four.

      Panucci played on both flanks.

We don’t need 5 CBs and 5 FBs.

The cover for Theo should’ve been Calabria who alternated with a fit Florenzi or Kalulu switching between CB and FB.

I’ve no idea why we’re linked with defenders given we don’t need anyone in those positions and we need to sort out the attack.
