Thiaw ‘very happy’ after goal vs. Juventus but admits squad are ‘not 100% yet’

By Oliver Fisher -

Malick Thiaw has admitted that the AC Milan squad are not yet at 100% as their preseason preparations continue, but he was happy to get on the scoresheet against Juventus.

Thiaw could actually stake a solid claim for the title of Man of the Match given that he had two goal involvements. The first was his own, a fantastic header into the far corner from a Theo Hernandez free-kick, and the second was a smart knock-down to Olivier Giroud.

It was the first start that the German international has made in the preseason friendly campaign thus far having joined up with the group late along with the other players who represented their country.

Speaking in the mixed zone at the end of the 2-2 draw against rivals Juventus, Thiaw was realistic about where Milan are at but also optimistic. Our colleagues at SempreMilan.it relayed his comments.

“I am very happy to have scored my first goal for Milan. The first goal is always special and I don’t think I’ll forget it. I am happy,” he said.

“We haven’t been training for long, because having played for the national team we have had longer holidays but we are still in the pre-season and we can still improve our condition.

“Of course, we’re not 100% yet but we have time to be ready for the first game of the season.”
