The Times: ‘Only wants Milan’ – how Kiwior is affecting Arsenal’s Calafiori deal

By Ben Dixon -

In January, AC Milan made attempts to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal, and whilst their attempts were unsuccessful, it never finished like a closed chapter.

The mercato is a beautiful conundrum for football clubs, that as fans, we adore – at times. It is a time when old sparks are relit, for good, and bad, and we have already seen multiple examples of this in the mercato already.

Old sparks are not just players, though, sometimes, it can be positions, and the same players can come back into conversations, again, which we have seen this mercato. Looking back to January, Milan were desperate for a central defender, but they did not pay for a new one, instead, they recalled Matteo Gabbia, who has done a stellar job.

However, the issue has not been fully solved, and with Simon Kjaer’s departure, there is a clear need for at least one more central defender at the club, and it seems the ideal candidate from January could be on the cards again.

In the past fortnight, it has been suggested that the Rossoneri are one of several clubs who are ‘pushing’ for Kiwior, and a report from The Times (via Pianeta Milan) may make a move more likely.

The report suggests that the Polish defender was attempted to be included in a deal by Arsenal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, but the 24-year-old refused to leave for Bologna, instead stating that he is waiting for a proposal from the Diavolo.

Of course, this does not mean a move will happen tomorrow, but getting the ‘come and get me’ plea from a player who you are ‘pushing’ for makes the situation very interesting.

  1. Did arsenal really think he would’ve been fine just being sent to bologna as a bargain chip, with all the links he’s had this year?

  2. Get Kiwior and Pavlovic… Great physical and tall additions… Kalulu seems better on RB position anyway

Now Fofana, Samardzic after Morata and then 1 more ST

    1. Would be a complete waste of budget to sign both IMO.

One left footed Eastern European centre-back only for now please!

    2. You want to overhaul your squad every season ?? Gabbia doing well in CB . ACM only need 4 CB for one season : Tomori,Gabbia,Thiaw,Pavlovic ( still negotiate) and kalulu will be 5th CB ( only if emergency case because he is focused on RB )

    1. Id prefer a buyback clause than resale one. His next transfer after leaving Belgium is the one that will be worth having a percentage of. Selling him for peanuts when we didn’t give him a few games is ill advised

    2. Horrible deal.

      What does 3M get you??

He is a talented player and for a club that stresses youth – this doesn’t make sense. At least put a buy-back option in the deal.

      Horrible

  3. Out best gift is calafioli
If that will have we don’t need any buy cos pioli is so bad
A good coach will get something with this boys

  4. Why are we still doing deals for rejects.?

Why is doing deals for rejects not criticised by all?

Why are Italian teams still pushing there top talents out the door?

Why are people talking about Italian football being on the rise when it resembles leagues in Portugal holland Belgium and France .

Why only Italian clubs comply with FFP and when they show ambition get taken to the cleaners while clubs such as Barcelona can have over 2 billion of debt and are not touched?
