The possibility of Mattia Caldara returning to AC Milan once his loan spell at Atalanta is over cannot be ruled out, according to a report.
TMW notes how Caldara returned to Bergamo after difficult spells at both Juventus and Milan on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy set at €15m, and even though it was an option it seemed like a formality that he would return there permanently in summer 2021.
However, Caldara recently sustained an injury to the patellar tendon which will leave him out for a long time, and of course the management of the Bergamo club will have to do the maths and understand whether it is better to spend the €15m and keep him or to not exercise their option and try either negotiate a better deal or invest the money elsewhere more wisely.
For now though the discussions can be held on pause, with time on Atalanta’s side.
